Oddsmakers are late to release a line for the week 17 Raiders at Colts matchup because of uncertainty surrounding the Indy quarterback situation. Carson Wentz has entered into health and safety protocols, but recent changes to those mean Wentz could still play.
Indianapolis will turn to rookie Sam Ehlinger if Wentz is unable to clear protocols. That would be a huge advantage to the Raiders who are tied with Miami, Baltimore, and the Chargers for the final wild card spot in the AFC.
Las Vegas Raiders
At 8-7 Las Vegas is locked up with the Dolphins, Raiders, and Chargers who are all also 8-7. The Raiders have a tough matchup with the Chargers next week so they are in a tough spot even if they can take down the Colts on Sunday.
The Raiders really are in a must-win against the Colts, because they don’t any of the tie breakers over Miami, Baltimore, or Los Angeles currently. Las Vegas has survived two weeks in a row, a 16-14 win over shorthanded Cleveland and last Sunday’s 17-13 victory against Denver.
The Raiders defense is playing well except for a 48-9 loss to Kansas City in week 14. Las Vegas has allowed 17 points or less in three of their last four overall and would have a better chance of keeping that trend going if the rookie Ehlinger starts at QB for Indianapolis.
Indianapolis Colts
The Colts could still get Wentz back thanks to the NFL’s recent changes to health protocols. Wentz would have normally had to sit out a mandatory 10 days because he is unvaccinated, but now can play if he doesn’t have a fever for 24 hours and is cleared by team doctors.
Wentz threw for just 57 yards in the 27-17 week 15 win over New England, but it was evident how important he is to this Colts offense in last week’s 22-16 upset at Arizona when he tossed for 225 yards with 2 TD and 0 INT.
Ehlinger would be making his first NFL appearance if Wentz isn’t cleared by Sunday’s game, but the rookie’s job is pretty easy with MVP candidate Jonathan Taylor in the backfield. Taylor has run for 1,626 yards and 17 TDs this season.
Taylor has gone for 100+ yards in six of the last seven games and conversely the Raiders only run for 90.5 ypg as a team, 28th in the NFL.

4* Free Week 17 NFL Betting Prediction: UNDER 44.5
The Raiders defense has been stepping up lately, in light of their offense going into the tank for the 2nd half of the season. Indianapolis has allowed 17 points or less in five of their last six games.
The under definitely helps if Ehlinger gets the nod at QB.
