The Jacksonville Jaguars and Green Bay Packers are two teams trending in very different directions. The Jaguars fell just short of a comeback against the Texans in Week 9, while the Packers bounced back with a big Thursday night win against the 49ers.
Jacksonville Jaguars
After their week 1 upset of the Indianapolis Colts, the Jaguars and Minshew Mania hype train took off. The Jaguars have not won a game since, and Minshew will miss his second game in a row due to injury. That means 6th round pick Jake Luton start at quarterback.
After Minshew became a late scratch against the Texans, Luton threw for 304 yards and a touchdown while adding another touchdown on the ground. Jacksonville ended up losing 27-25 after missing a two-point conversion attempt at the end of regulation.
His performance was one of Jacksonville’s rare bright spots of the season. DJ Chark also played well, catching seven passes for 146 yards and a touchdown.
The Jaguars defense turned in one of their best performances of the season. That’s not saying much, as they have been the second worst scoring defense in the league, giving up 30.9 points per game.
They will have their work cut out for them against a Green Bay offense averaging 31.6 points per game.
Green Bay Packers
While both of Green Bay’s losses have come in the past four weeks, there is nothing to suggest that they are not still a Super Bowl contender.
Aaron Rodgers bounced back from one of the worst performances of his career against the Buccaneers, and the Packer defense had a strong outing a week after being shredded by Dalvin Cook and the Vikings.
Aaron Rodgers is still playing MVP-caliber football, with 24 touchdowns to only 2 interceptions. He is completing an incredible 67.5% of his passes. He appears to be having fun and playing with an abundance of confidence.
He has benefited from star receiver Davante Adams’ return to the lineup, who has caught six touchdowns in his last three games. Rodgers and the Green Bay offense match up favorably against Jacksonville’s defense.
The Packer defense can be the weak link of this team. It was what cost them in their NFC Championship defeat last year, and they haven’t made significant additions over the offseason.
The good news for Mike Pettine’s squad is that they are facing a Jaguars offense that was anemic even before Minshew’s injury. Coupled with Jacksonville’s lack of a ground game, and this one of the most favorable matchups they will see this year.
