Thursday night will kick off the 2020 NFL season between the Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs will look to defend their Super Bowl title in 2020 as they have most of their starts from the 2019 season returning. Houston will turn to newly paid Deshaun Watson to help lead them to their first Super Bowl in franchise history this year.
Houston Texans
Texans will look to repeat as AFC South division champions for the third year in a row in 2020 after going 10-6 to claim the division last year. Deshaun Watson established himself as one of the best QB’s in the NFL. He registered 3852 passing and 452 rushing yards last year to go along with a 26:12 TD to INT ratio.
Houston will turn to newly acquired David Johnson in the backfield this season to be their premier running back for 2020. The 28-year old RB only posted 345 rushing yards in Arizona last season.
Bill O’Brien shipped off Deandre Hopkins to get Johnson in the offseason so Watson will be working with some new people in the receiving core this season. Brandon Cooks was traded to Houston by the Rams so he will be a key piece for the O’Brien this season with Hopkins gone.
Houston averaged 23.6 points in 2019, ranking them 14th in the NFL.

Defensively, the Texans will rely on a healthy J.J. Watt and Zack Cunningham to help pave the way upfront. Zack Cunningham just secured a big new contract so he should be motivated to start this season. J.J Watt staying healthy is the key to Texan’s defense as it had a notice dropoff when he was sidelined. In 2019, they allowed an average of 24.1 points, ranking them 19th overall.
Kansas City Chiefs
Chiefs are the favorites to win the Super Bowl again after getting the first one in 50 years in Kansas City. Patrick Mahomes proved he was the best Quarterback in the league once again after he basically led the team on one leg to victory on the big stage.
Andy Reid got another weapon in the first round of the draft this year with Clyde Edwards-Helaire out of Baton Rouge. He helped lead LSU to a National Championship at running back and will try to replace Super Bowl MVP Damian Williams as he has opted out of the season due to COVID.
The receiver room continues to be filled with talent in Kansas City as they are returning all of the receivers in the Super Bowl run. Travis Kelce leads the pack bringing in over 1200 receiving yards last season and tallied 192 receiving yards against the Texans last season. Sammy Watkins and Tyreek Hill are also a duo you don’t want to see on the field either as they hauled in over a combined 1500 yards together last season.
NFL Betting Trends:

4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Texans +9.5
I like the Texans to keep this game close as everyone is loving the Chiefs in this game and I think the Texans may even have a chance to upset the Chiefs here. Super Bowl hangovers exist and Deshaun Watson is motived to show he is just as good as Mahomes. Remember the Texans blew a 21-0 lead against the Chiefs in their playoff game last year so there will be some extra motivation for Houston.
