Here’s why I’m backing an Indianapolis ATS bet below in my Texans Colts free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
Texans vs. Colts Gameday
The Houston Texans head to Indianapolis Sunday for a Week 3 AFC South matchup with the Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM ET on CBS.
Both teams are 0-2, so somebody gets to leave Sunday feeling considerably better about September.
Houston opened with a 36-31 loss to Buffalo before Cincinnati held the Texans to six points last week. Indianapolis lost 41-23 to Baltimore, then pushed Kansas City into overtime before falling 33-30.
Two winless AFC South teams meet Sunday, which should remove any concerns about a shortage of urgency.
DeMeco Ryans and Shane Steichen don’t need a lecture about the standings. Jacksonville is only 1-1, so Sunday’s winner can quickly get back into the division conversation while the loser gets the rather unpleasant 0-3 label.

Indianapolis leads the all-time series 32-15-1, but Houston has won five straight meetings. The Texans took both games last season, including a 38-30 victory in Houston in Week 18.
Houston Texans vs. Indianapolis Colts Odds & Last 5
Houston is a 2.5-point road favorite, with the Texans around -150 on the moneyline and Indianapolis roughly +125. The total is sitting around 42.5 to 43.5.
The Texans have produced 811 yards through two games, but the scoreboard hasn’t been nearly as impressed.
Houston scored 31 against Buffalo before managing only six points against Cincinnati. C.J. Stroud threw for 353 yards last week, Dalton Schultz caught 12 passes for 140, and the Texans still couldn’t find the end zone.
Indianapolis has had the opposite problem.
The Colts have scored 53 points while allowing 74, including 33 in last week’s overtime loss at Kansas City. Jonathan Taylor ran for 92 yards and two touchdowns, while Daniel Jones threw for 210 yards and another score.

Colts Stats
Indianapolis is averaging 26.5 points despite its 0-2 start. The Colts have scored three touchdowns in each game, but a defense allowing 37 points per contest has made that offense work with very little margin for error.
Jonathan Taylor has done his part.
Taylor has carried 43 times for 190 yards and four touchdowns, adding seven catches for another 63 yards. He scored twice against Baltimore and twice more at Kansas City, giving Indianapolis a reliable way to finish drives.
Daniel Jones has completed 41 of 62 passes for 376 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Josh Downs leads the Colts with 109 receiving yards, while Taylor is next with 63. Alec Pierce has 72 yards, although a heel injury has kept him out of practice this week and adds another concern to the passing game.
Taylor has four touchdowns already; Indianapolis might want to keep feeding the part of the offense that’s working.
Defense is where the Colts need a much different Sunday. Indianapolis allowed 506 yards to Baltimore and another 523 to Kansas City, with Patrick Mahomes and Kenneth Walker III combining to make the overtime loss particularly expensive.
The Colts have also yet to intercept a pass.
Texans Stats
Houston’s 0-2 start hasn’t come from an inability to move the football. The Texans are averaging better than 400 yards per game, with Stroud already throwing for 627 yards through two weeks.
The finishing part has been considerably less convincing.
Stroud has completed 56 of 93 passes for 627 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. He spread the ball around against Cincinnati, but Schultz did most of the damage with 140 receiving yards.
David Montgomery leads Houston with 70 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
The Texans have only 184 rushing yards as a team, averaging 3.7 yards per carry. That’s put plenty on Stroud’s plate, including 94 pass attempts through the first two games.
Houston’s defense has been much better against the run, allowing 171 rushing yards through two games. That creates an interesting strength-on-strength matchup with Taylor, who has already handled 43 carries for Indianapolis.
The Texans also have seven sacks.
Will Anderson Jr. leads the way with 1.5, while Houston’s front has generated pressure without getting much help from turnovers. The defense has yet to record an interception.
Houston’s injury report deserves attention before Sunday.
Nico Collins, Trent Brown, Jadeveon Clowney, Jake Hummel and Ed Ingram all missed Wednesday’s practice with injuries. Collins’ hamstring is especially important after the Texans played last week without him.
Texans vs. Colts QB Matchup
C.J. Stroud has thrown for 627 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions through Houston’s first two games. He’s already attempted 93 passes, which tells you plenty about where the Texans have been leaning offensively.
Last Sunday produced plenty of yards and very little satisfaction.
Stroud threw for 353 yards against Cincinnati and found eight different receivers, but Houston failed to score a touchdown. That’s the frustration with this offense right now: the Texans can travel the field without always finishing the trip.
Daniel Jones has thrown for 376 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
He was sharper against Kansas City, completing 22 of 31 passes for 210 yards and a touchdown. Indianapolis also protected him well against Steve Spagnuolo’s pressure packages, allowing the Colts to stay on schedule and push the Chiefs into overtime.

Jones doesn’t need to match Stroud’s passing volume Sunday.
Taylor gives Indianapolis a legitimate ground-game advantage, while Stroud may again be asked to carry a Houston offense averaging only 3.7 yards per rush. If the Colts can avoid falling behind early, Jones should have a much more manageable afternoon.
Stroud has produced the bigger passing numbers.
Jones has gotten considerably more help near the goal line.
Houston Texans vs. Indianapolis Colts bottom line: Houston has moved the football more consistently, but Indianapolis has Taylor, home field and enough offensive production to make this AFC South matchup considerably tighter than the teams’ identical records suggest.
Houston Texans vs. Indianapolis Colts Football Betting Trends
- The Texans have a strong record in games with totals of 42 or less, going 7-0 in their last 7 regular-season games in 2025.
- Also, Houston has been successful as favorites, achieving a 5-1 record in their last 6 regular-season games from 2025 to 2026.
- In away games, the Texans have shown consistency, winning their last 4 regular-season games in 2025.
- The Colts have seen all of their last 3 regular-season games in 2025 and 2026 go over the total.
- Additionally, Indianapolis has gone over the total in their last 3 games as underdogs in the regular season from 2025 to 2026.
- When playing at home, the Colts have a 5-2 record for overs in their last 7 regular-season games from 2025 to 2026.
Texans Colts Free Pick: Colts +2.5
Here is my Texans Colts free pick: I’m taking Colts +2.5. Neither team has found the win column yet, but Indianapolis has already shown more ability to finish drives, scoring 53 points compared with Houston’s 37.
The Texans can move the football. Turning those yards into touchdowns has been the problem, and last week’s six-point afternoon against Cincinnati was a pretty good demonstration of why laying road points with Houston doesn’t thrill me.
Houston has the prettier yardage numbers; Indianapolis has been considerably better at making the scoreboard notice.
Jonathan Taylor is another reason I want the points. He’s already rushed for 190 yards and four touchdowns, while Houston has allowed only 85.5 rushing yards per game. That matchup should tell us plenty.
C.J. Stroud gives Houston the higher passing ceiling, but the Texans have scored touchdowns on only four of their first 155 offensive plays. Daniel Jones doesn’t need to outgun him; he needs Taylor, the home field and a defense that finally gets a few stops.
This feels more like a one-possession AFC South grinder than a comfortable Houston road win.
Take the Colts +2.5.
