We will see just how big of a rut Seattle is in when the Lions visit Lumen Field in week 17. The Seahawks couldn’t beat a Bears team with Nick Foles making his first start of the season last week, falling 25-24 at home in the snow.
Detroit is closing strong, but wins are still elusive with their latest defeat coming 20-16 at Atlanta. That followed a huge upset over Arizona the week prior and a win over Minnesota back in week 13. The Lions have to like their chances in this spot.
Detroit Lions
What was most impressive about Detroit keeping things close last week in Atlanta is that they did it with backup Tim Boyle in at quarterback for Jared Goff. Boyle was an efficient 24/34 with 187 yards and 1 TD/1 INT in his second start of the season.
Goff missed the game as he was in the health and safety protocols and now he’s also battling a knee injury that has him questionable for the Seattle matchup. It would be no surprise at all if Goff skipped the trip to Seattle and Boyle got a second straight start.
The Detroit defense did their part last Sunday, holding Atlanta to 254 total yards. That was coming off a game in which they held Kyler Murray to 257 yards passing with a TD and an INT so the Lions are ready for the matchup with Russell Wilson in week 17.
Seattle Seahawks
It’s hard to take too much out of last Sunday’s loss to the Bears for Seattle, because the ground was snow covered and the conditions were tough for both teams. Even so, Foles was making his first appearance of the year for Chicago and he was 24/35 for 250 yards with a TD.
Foles outplayed Russell Wilson last Sunday as the Seattle QB was just 16/27 for 181 yards and 2 TDs. Seattle had a 10-point lead at home in the 4th quarter, and not only couldn’t stop Chicago from scoring 11 points, but the Seahawks couldn’t manage a single score of their own.
Last week was the second straight down game for Seattle, who also fell 20-10 to the Rams in week 15. That has dropped the Seahawks to 5-10 on the season and officially eliminated from playoff contention. The next two weeks could be the last for Wilson and/or Pete Carroll in Seattle.

4* Free Week 17 NFL Betting Prediction: Under 42.5
We don’t know who is getting the nod at QB for the Lions, and the Seahawks have been less than impressive offensively (or defensively) the last two weeks. Five of the last seven Detroit games have gone ‘under’ the total, because that’s just the style they play.
An upset win from the Lions wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility here as Seattle is likely throwing in the towel on this season.
