The Jaguars will travel back home to take on the Detroit Lions after dropping one on the road to the Texans. Detroit is coming off their very early week 4 bye week, so they will be well-rested awaiting this game.
Detroit Lions
The Lions in their last bout took on the Saints down in New Orleans and held their own for three quarters until Alvin Kamara took over the game. Detroit ultimately lost 35-29 after blowing another 14 point lead. It was their third double-digit lead blown for a loss this season.
Matt Stafford has been pretty good through four games, he just isn’t getting any help from his defense. Stafford has completed 83 of 137 passes for 1017 yards to go along with eight touchdowns and three interceptions. As a team, the Detroit offense is averaging 24.8 points per game which is good for 19th in the league.
Surprisingly, Adrian Peterson is the Lions leading rusher through four games. Even with all the promise, Kerryon Johnson showed last season Matt Patricia seems to trust Peterson more as he has a bulk of the teams carries this year. Peterson has 54 rush attempts for 245 yards compared to Johnson’s 21 rush attempts for 71 yards on the ground.

Defensively is where Detroit has really struggled this season. The Lions lost all-pro corner Darius Slay to the Eagles in the offseason and they have been burned downfield a lot this year. They are allowing opponents to score an average of 31.8 points per game which is suitable for 29th in the NFL.
Jacksonville Jaguars
A bunch of mistakes hurt the Jags in their last game against the Texans. The Jaguars committed two very costly turnovers at the goal line that prevented them from scoring and had two missed field goals on the day. There were about 12-20 points left off the board because of their errors.
Jacksonville has really regressed since winning in their 2020 debut in week one. It all can’t be blamed on Gardner Minshew as he doesn’t have a sufficient team around him. Minshew has thrown for 1439 passing yards to go with 10 touchdowns and four interceptions which isn’t too bad. In total, the Jaguars are averaging 21.8 points per game which is ranked 26th in the NFL.
The key to stopping this Jaguars offense is slowing down wide receiver DJ Chalk. Chalk is a great downfield receiver and Houston proved that if you can shut him down Jacksonville has a hard time moving the ball up and down the field. DJ caught just three of five targets for 16 yards in the loss on Sunday and the Jags had their worst scoring day of the year.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Jags are riddled with injuries. They now have up to eight defensive starters on the injured list or the IR as of Monday night. Myles Jack was the most recent to hit the list and that is a huge blow for Jacksonville. Jack had a team-high 37 combined tackles before hitting the IR.

4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Lions -3.5
I think the Lions are the play here. Matt Stafford has been very good to start his 2020 campaign, no one on the defensive side of the ball is helping him through. Detroit has had a double-digit lead in three of their four games this season (the other one they won) and has blown that lead every time. I just don’t trust the Jaguars offense to generate enough points to beat this Lions team. Give me Detroit to cover the spread and squeak past the Jaguars in a close game.
