The Detroit Lions will travel to Georgia to take on the Falcons at home in Week 7 of the NFL Season. The Lions are coming off a bashing win over the Jaguars 34-16, while Atlanta dominated the Vikings 40-23.
Detroit now sits a 2-3 on the season and have played a lot better than the record shows. They have had multiple double-digit leads in games but just can’t find a way to hold them.
The Lions rank in the bottom third of the NFL statistically on offense and defense, but its defense has actually been slightly better than its offense. As a team, they are giving up an average of 28.6 points per game, while scoring an average of 26.6.
Matt Stafford had himself a really nice game against the Jags his last time out and will try to carry that momentum in this game with the Falcons. Stafford is completing over 60% of his passes this season for 1,240 yards to go along with his nine touchdowns and four interceptions.
Rookie RB D’Andre Swift has been integrated as a huge part of the run game and has definitely overtaken Karryon Johnson for the RB1 spot in Detroit. Swift had over 120 yards in the game against Jacksonville and ended up finding the endzone twice. They are going to need him to come up big against Atlanta as they have a very weak rushing defense. Atlanta is surrendering an average of 4.1 per rushing attempt so look for Detroit to take advantage.
Atlanta finally grabbed their first win of the season against Minnesota last week, but it came at the cost of firing head coach Dan Quinn. It marked the first game since 2015 that Quinn won’t be on the sideline calling plays for the Falcons and most people seemed to agree it was time to move on.
After blowing multiple double-digit leads in their first five games, the Falcons came out on fire against the Vikings and put up 10 points in the first quarter never taking the foot off the gas. Atlanta put up over 450+ yards in the game for the third time season and they have the fourth-best statistical offense in the NFL, racking up 403.2 yards per game.
The Falcons are going to need Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley to come through in this game against Detroit. The Lions are one of the worst teams in the league at giving up plays that are 30+ yards in the air and that’s due to the fact they have so many injuries in their secondary. With Desmond Trufant likely out for this game they have just a rookie corner out there trying to cover maybe the best receiver of the 2010s.

4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Atlanta -2.5
I think the Falcons are the right play in this game. Players are fighting for their jobs down in Atlanta and they are going to be playing at their highest level if they want to stay on the team after a potential fire sale that is headed their way. The Falcons also have the superior matchup with their receiving core against these Detroit corners. Even though Jeffery Okudah has been very impressive in his short amount of time in the league, he is not going to match up with the best receiver of this generation very well in Julio Jones. Give me the Falcons to win by at least a touchdown over the Lions.
