With a little better luck maybe both of these teams would be heading into the final quarter of the season with something to play for.
Now they are just playing for development. In Carolina, they are still in year one and in Denver, they are still trying to develop a quarterback.
It could be competitive but this is a meaningless contest.
Denver Broncos
Denver deserves some credit for hanging with the Chiefs last week. They only lost by six in a game most thought would be double that. Division foes seem to give the Chiefs fits.
It was the fourth week in a row that Denver failed to score more than 20 points. They are the second lowest-scoring team in the league. That makes them tough to back.
Melvin Gordon III was the surprising offensive star against K.C. He had a season-high 131 yards so at least they are getting something from their offseason investment.
Denver is not a good team. They are sneaky though as QB Drew Lock has some decent weapons and the defense a few playmakers too. Carolina is a team they can beat.
Two of the Broncos four wins have come on the road too. With some points to spare they could be a play here.
Carolina Panthers
For a while there it looked like Matt Rhule was going to have a very smooth transition to the NFL. Then some injuries hit and things have been about as tough as expected.
Carolina did have a bye week last week, and they needed it after a tough one-point loss to Minnesota. This week is their best chance to get another win this season.
Teddy Bridgewater continues to be the saving grace for this team. He might have been the best free-agent QB acquisition of the offseason and has shown that he can be very effective.
Bridgewater has two very productive targets in DJ Moore and Robby Anderson. Both are already over 900 yards on the season. This offense would have been that much more dynamic with Christian McCaffery healthy.
Carolina’s defense has been pretty solid all season long. They should definitely be able to match up well with Denver.

I am not expecting Carolina to dominate, they just need to be good enough to not let this one come down to a field goal late.
