The week 7 clash between the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Football Team features two teams that have suffered disastrous starts to the 2020 season. Both teams have new head coaches at the helm, and neither has found their identity yet.
One of the only bright spots for these teams is that NFC East is wide open as each team is struggling. The Cowboys are the first team since the 1970 merger to be leading a division with a losing record.
Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas fanbase was re-energized this offseason with the signing of Super Bowl winning coach Mike McCarthy. The excitement hasn’t lasted long as the Cowboys poor start to the season has already resulted in second guessing and narratives that players are not happy with the coaching staff.
According to NFL Network reporter Jane Slater Cowboys Players say that their coaches are “totally unprepared” and ” just aren’t good at their jobs.”
The Cowboys are coming off of a 38-10 blowout loss to the Arizona Cardinals in a game that they were slight favorites. Andy Dalton’s first start replacing the injured Dak Prescott was a nightmare, as Dalton finished with 2 interceptions and a 38.7 QBR.
He threw the ball a whopping 54 times after Dallas fell behind early after losing two Ezekiel Elliot fumbles. They will both need to turn in better performances against Washington if the Cowboys want to turn things around.
The Dallas offense has put up decent numbers statistically. They lead the league in yards per game and passing yards per game, and rank 10th in points per game (28.8).
Although some of these numbers come from late comeback attempts, they are capable of scoring points. The Cowboys have a talented receiving corps for Dalton to work with, including Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and CeeDee Lamb. Dallas will need to establish the run game in Prescott’s absence, as they are averaging only 105 yards per game.

The Cowboy defense has been an easy scapegoat to blame the team’s struggles on. It is hard to overstate how bad they have played on that side of the ball. They are allowing a league worst 36.3 points per game. They consistently end up out of position, and have not been able to stop anything.
Washington Football Team
The Washington Football Team is fresh off a 1 point loss to the New York Giants. They have also had a turbulent start to Ron Rivera’s first season as head coach. Washington has not won a game since pulling off an unlikely 2nd half comeback against the Eagles in week 1. They are also dealing with a controversial quarterback situation.
Rivera benched 1st round pick Dwayne Haskins for backup Kyle Allen after a 1-3 start. He initially the decision was made because Allen gives the team a better chance to win, but there have been questions about the real motive.
Washington has not been stellar on offense. They are scoring only 18 points and racking up 303.8 yards per game, which both rank near league lows. Although the offense has looked a little sharper on Sunday with Allen under center, he ultimately lost a fumble that likely cost them the game.
A glimmer of hope for an offense rushing for only 82.2 yards per game is that they will be playing against a Dallas defense allowing 173.3 yards per game on the ground. If there is a time for the Washington offense to get things figured out it’s against the Cowboys on Sunday.
While far from stellar, Washington has a better outlook on the defensive side of the ball. They are holding opponents to 353.5 yards and 27 points per game. One of their strengths is their pass rush.
Their defensive front led by Chase Young is capable of getting pressure and making things uncomfortable for opposing quarterbacks. They are averaging 2.7 sacks per game.

4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Washington +2
It’s hard to have confidence in either of these teams. However, I think Washington matches up well enough to cause some problems for this Dallas squad. Andy Dalton has struggled when under pressure throughout his career, and pressuring opposing quarterbacks is one of Washington’s strengths.
The Cowboys defense has allowed season opponents to score a season-high amount of points in their last three games. I will bet against the team with players publicly bad-mouthing the coaching staff. Take Washington to cover the spread.
