Cowboys vs. Giants Gameday
The Dallas Cowboys open the 2026 regular season on the road against the New York Giants in Week 1. The game will be played at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, with kickoff scheduled for Sunday, September 13 at 8:20 PM ET. Fans can catch this NFC East matchup on NBC.
Dallas enters its second season under Head Coach Brian Schottenheimer after finishing 7-9-1 last year. Klayton Adams returns as Offensive Coordinator, while Christian Parker takes over a defense that needed significant improvement after 2025. Dak Prescott remains in charge of an offense that was one of the NFL’s most productive units last season.
Sunday night brings a familiar NFC East rivalry with both teams looking for a fresh start.
The Giants begin a new era with John Harbaugh taking over as Head Coach after an 18-year run in Baltimore. Matt Nagy runs the offense, while Dennard Wilson takes over as Defensive Coordinator. New York also has second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart back under center after an encouraging rookie season.
The teams split their two meetings last season, with Dallas winning a 40-37 shootout at home. New York answered with a 34-17 victory at MetLife Stadium in Week 18.
That season-ending victory snapped a nine-game losing streak for the Giants against their NFC East rivals.
Week 1, Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants, we’re all hoping a great game is in store.

Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants Odds & Last 5
The betting market gives Dallas the early edge in this NFC East opener. The Cowboys are listed at -157 on the moneyline, while New York comes back at +131. Dallas is laying -3 points on the road, with the total set at 48.5.
The Cowboys finished the preseason 2-1, earning victories against Arizona and Seattle before closing with a loss. Dallas fell 27-24 against New Orleans in its exhibition finale after entering the fourth quarter trailing by 10 points.
New York also finished the preseason at 2-1.
The Giants dropped their opener 13-10 against Minnesota before putting together two strong defensive performances. New York beat Miami 26-3 and then handled the Jets 23-6, allowing only nine combined points across those final two victories. That defensive finish gave Harbaugh something positive to carry into Week 1.
Giants Stats
The New York Giants enter 2026 looking for a significant turnaround after finishing 4-13 last season. New York generated 333.5 offensive yards per game, with its rushing attack producing 129.1 yards per contest. That ground game remained one of the more productive parts of the offense.
Jaxson Dart provided some encouraging signs during his rookie season, throwing for 2,272 yards and 15 touchdowns against only five interceptions. Dart also became a major part of the rushing attack with 487 yards and nine touchdowns. Tyrone Tracy Jr. led the running backs with 740 rushing yards and gave the Giants another option on the ground.
New York had considerably more trouble defensively, allowing 359.5 yards per game. The Giants surrendered 145.3 rushing yards per contest, making their run defense one of the league’s biggest weaknesses. The pass rush still managed to generate 39 sacks.
The Giants now have a completely different coaching staff trying to get more from that defense.
Harbaugh also inherits several young pieces to build around as New York attempts to climb back into the NFC East race. Improving against the run will be one of the biggest early tests for his new staff.

Cowboys Stats
The Dallas Cowboys finished 7-9-1 last season despite producing one of the NFL’s most dangerous offenses. Dallas averaged 391.9 offensive yards per game and generated 266.3 passing yards per contest. Prescott’s passing attack was the clear strength of the team.
Dak Prescott completed 404-of-600 passes for 4,552 yards and 30 touchdowns against only 10 interceptions. Javonte Williams gave Dallas balance on the ground with 1,201 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. The Cowboys had enough offensive production to stay competitive throughout an otherwise frustrating season.
Dallas had much bigger problems on defense, allowing 30.1 points per game. The Cowboys struggled to consistently slow opponents despite producing 35 sacks over the course of the season. That imbalance between the offense and defense proved costly throughout the year.
That side of the ball gets a fresh start under Parker.
The Cowboys return plenty of offensive firepower around Prescott, including CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. With the offense already capable of piling up yards, even moderate defensive improvement could make Dallas a much more dangerous team in 2026.
Dallas gets its first chance to show that improvement against a familiar division opponent.

Cowboys vs. Giants QB Matchup
Dak Prescott enters 2026 after another productive season leading the Dallas passing attack. He completed 67.3% of his passes for 4,552 yards and 30 touchdowns against 10 interceptions. Prescott finished the year with a 99.5 passer rating.
His experience gives Dallas a clear veteran presence under center entering this Sunday night matchup.
Prescott also has the benefit of returning to an offense that produced at a high level through the air last season.
Jaxson Dart begins his second NFL season after completing 216-of-339 passes for 2,272 yards as a rookie. He threw 15 touchdowns against five interceptions while producing a 91.7 passer rating. Dart was also dangerous on the ground, rushing for 487 yards and nine touchdowns.
Dart now gets his first season working with Harbaugh, Nagy and a rebuilt Giants offensive staff. His ability to create plays with both his arm and legs gives New York another dimension against a Dallas defense that struggled throughout 2025.
Prescott owns the statistical and experience advantage, but Dart showed enough as a rookie to make his Year 2 development worth watching.
Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants bottom line: Dallas brings the more established offense into Week 1, while New York starts the John Harbaugh era at home after splitting last season’s series with the Cowboys.
Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants Football Betting Trends

- Also, the Cowboys have hit the over in their last 5 games as favorites.
- The Giants have gone over the total in 10 of their last 12 regular season games.

Cowboys Giants Free Pick: Over 48.5
Here is my Cowboys Giants free pick: Over 48.5 is a big total for Week 1, but Dallas spent most of last season playing exactly this kind of football. The Cowboys could score, and they couldn’t stop anybody.
Dallas averaged 27.7 points per game and finished 7th in scoring while ranking 2nd in total offense. The other side was the problem, with the Cowboys allowing an NFL-worst 30.1 points per game.
That combination produced Overs in 12 of Dallas’ 17 games. It wasn’t subtle.
The Giants weren’t nearly as explosive, but they still averaged 22.4 points while allowing 25.8 per game during a 4-13 season.
There’s also some recent history here. Dallas beat New York 40-37 in their first meeting last season, and that game sailed past a 44.5 total.
More importantly, the Cowboys finished 2025 with 5 straight Overs, including a 34-17 loss at New York in Week 18. Dallas allowed at least 30 points in every one of those games.
New York enters a new era with John Harbaugh and Jaxson Dart, so I’m not leaning heavily on old Giants trends. I don’t need to.
Dallas’ 2025 profile gives me enough: productive offense, awful defense, and 12 Overs in 17 games.
I’ll take the Over 48.5.
