Cleveland jumped all over Pittsburgh in the final game of Super Wild Card Weekend Sunday night, set a record for points scored in the first quarter of any playoff game, and held on to win, 48–37.
All that while Kansas City rested up. The Chiefs earned a bye with 14 wins in their first 15 games and will host its way through the AFC playoffs.
Cleveland Browns
The first play of Sunday night’s game between the Browns and Steelers resulted in a bad snap over Ben Roethlisberger’s head and into the end zone for a Cleveland defensive touchdown.
Then the Browns picked off Big Ben and promptly marched down the field for a touchdown.
They forced a Pittsburgh punt the next time out on defense and responded with a third touchdown drive to make it 21–0.
After another interception and three plays on offense, Kareem Hunt scored for a second time to make it 28.
Then Cleveland got a little conservative and Pittsburgh threw the ball with reckless abandon. It never got to be a one-score game but Pittsburgh did get as close as 35–23 in the third quarter.
The Browns extended their lead and only until the last two minutes did the Steelers get within 11 with a touchdown and a two-point conversion.
Cleveland’s defense was sensational, intercepting Roethlisberger five times. He only finished with over 500 yards because he threw it 68 times.
On the other side of the ball, Baker Mayfield threw for three touchdowns and no interceptions. The Browns won the turnover battle, 5–0.
Kansas City Chiefs
So here comes Cleveland with a head full of steam into Arrowhead that has been quiet of late.
The Chiefs did not need to win in Week 17 against the Chargers to lock up the top seed in the AFC and rested Patrick Mahomes, who finished the season with 4740 yards and 38 touchdowns compared with just six interceptions.
Good as KC was in the regular season, it was not invincible down the stretch. It finished the year with wins of two, four, three, six, six, three and three points before its meaningless loss to the Chargers.
All told, it finished the second half of the season by going 1–7 against the spread.
But the Chiefs were so good in close games because Patrick Mahomes’ ability in the clutch has matched, or even surpassed, his ability throughout the rest of the game.
The Chiefs know if they have the last possession, Mahomes will get it done. He is the best quarterback in football.

4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: keep it under.
Considering the Browns’ momentum and the Chiefs’ propensity to play close games of late, the ten points are tempting here.
Cleveland’s defense will by no means shut Mahomes and company down but it will compete. My biggest problem with playing Cleveland with the points is how the Browns’ offense will play against Kansas City’s defense.
It’s especially worrying to consider what will happen if KC manages to take away Cleveland’s’ run game, which isn’t easy.
If Mayfield is forced into uncomfortable situations, the Chiefs could stretch this thing out.
If that happens, Cleveland could easily finish this game in the teens, which looks good for the under. If not, the Browns will run, run and run some more, kill clock and play this one close. Still good for the under.
So that’s where I’m going here in a game with a big total on the board.
