New Orleans wrapped up the number two seed in the NFC with another blowout victory in Week 17.
The Saints are set to face the Bears, who got some help to sneak into the playoffs after losing in Week 17 to finish 8–8.
Chicago Bears
The Bears lost, 35–16, to the Packers in Week 17 but the game was closer than the final score indicated and momentum remains from three consecutive wins prior to the loss.
In that game against the Packers Chicago was within five point with four minutes to play in the game. Then Green Bay scored, got a turnover and scored again before it final.
The Bears had two turnovers in the game and both led to Packer touchdowns. It is absolutely crucial they limit or eliminate completely their turnovers against an opportunistic Saints’ defense.
Week 17 was Mitch Trubisky’s third game in a row with exactly one interception. That isn’t good but it isn’t as bad as what Bears fans have gotten used to over the years.
If Trubisky can avoid mistakes, David Montgomery and Chicago’s running game make it a live dog in this one.
Montgomery has been one of hottest backs in the game with at least one touchdown in six weeks in a row. He’s averaging right about 100 rushing yards a game in that span.
He ran 21 times for 89 yards in Chicago’s three-point loss to New Orleans in Week 8.
New Orleans Saints
The Bears lost the turnover battle in that game, 1–0, which very well could have cost them the game, considering it went to overtime before the Saints won, 26–23.
Drew Brees finished 31-for-41 for 280 yards and two touchdowns but Chicago limited the Saints’ running game, which has been inconsistent this season.
Alvin Kamara rushed just 12 times for 67 yards and Latavius Murray was ineffective.
Of course, neither of those guys played in Week 17 after Kamara tested positive. It’s expected both will be available for this game, though official word won’t be out until later in the week.
It’s also expected Michael Thomas, who didn’t play in that Week 8 matchup with the Bears, should be ready to return from a three-game absence to help rest his bum ankle.
Word is Thomas is healthy and he shouldn’t miss a beat with Brees, who will be relieved to have his favorite target back.
NFL Betting Trends:

4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Chicago.
Oddsmakers seem to think the return of Thomas will work wonders for New Orleans’ offense. It’s hard to argue with them.
But the Bears are playing good football. Trubisky has more confidence now than he’s had at any other point in his NFL career and for good reason.
For Chicago, the blueprint is there: play the turnover battle to a stalemate. If it does that, it will be a game. If it pulls the shock and actually wins the turnover battle, something crazy could happen here.
Ultimately, 9.5 points just looks too good for me to stay on the sidelines here. I’m playing Chicago as a live dog with the big number.
