Minnesota’s impossible, yet not improbable, run to a potential postseason berth took a hit last week in a 31-28 home loss to lowly Dallas, The Vikings will try to get back on track in a home game vs. Carolina on Sunday.
The Panthers looked good in a 20-0 shutout win over Detroit last week, made even more impressive as the team was playing without not only Christian McCaffrey but also Teddy Bridgewater. Both are longshots to play again on Sunday.
Carolina Panthers
Carolina did just enough on offense last Sunday to get the 20-0 win over Detroit, fueled by a 24/34 day passing from P.J. Walker starting in the place of the injured Bridgewater.
Rumors of a QB controversy in Charlotte are a bit premature, even though Walker did help halt the team’s 5-game losing streak. Walker did have 2 INTs in his first NFL start, but should be better with a game under his belt.

The Carolina defense should be in line for another big outing after holding Detroit to 40 yards rushing and just 145 through the air last Sunday. The Vikings offense has been on a nice roll lately though, especially in the ground game.
The Panthers recent losing streak doesn’t look great, but the last four also came against quality competition in New Orleans, Atlanta, Kansas City, and Tampa Bay. Where do the Vikings fall on that spectrum though?
Minnesota Vikings
Despite the loss last week, Minnesota’s offense continues to be trending upwards. Dalvin Cook had his third 100+ yard game over the last four, and Kirk Cousins was 22/30 for 314 yards and 3 TD.
Cousins had an especially productive connection with Adam Thielen, who had 8 catches for 123 yards and 2 TD vs. the Cowboys. Thielen could be missing in week 12 after landing on the COVID list however.
The Vikings defense is also searching for answers after giving up 180 yards on the ground to Dallas last week. Andy Dalton was 22/32 with 3 TDs in that game, dropping Minnesota’s pass defense to 26th in the NFL.
Minnesota should get an edge if Walker starts again for Carolina, going on the road for the first time in his career. No fans in attendance definitely helps the Panthers QB however, plus the Vikings are just 1-4 at U.S. Bank Stadium this year.
NFL Betting Trends:
- Panthers are 4-0 ATS last 4 road games
- Panthers are 2-6 ATS vs. team with a losing record
- Under is 5-2 in Panthers last 7 vs. NFC
- Vikings are 6-2 ATS last 8 overall
- Vikings are 1-4 ATS last 5 as a home favorite
- Over is 6-0 in Vikings last 6 home games
4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Panthers +4
The Vikings run game is impressive, but Minnesota has been horrible at home on the year. Minnesota will get pounded by the public in this game, but Carolina seems like they can find a way to keep it close.
