The Panthers will be traveling to Kansas City this weekend to take on the Chiefs in Week 9 of the NFL season. The Panthers are coming off a Thursday night loss to the Falcons 25-17, while the Chiefs mopped up the Jets 35-9 in their last contest.
Carolina Panthers
Carolina will look to bounce back here after dropping a divisional game against the Falcons last week. After a nice 3-2 start to the season, the Panthers have now dropped three games in a row and are trying to prevent from making it a fourth. The good news for them is that head coach Matt Rhule has had 11 days to prepare for the toughest opponent he will face this season in Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.
A scary sight for football fans occurred in the Atlanta/Carolina game when Teddy Bridgewater took a high hit to the head and had to be removed from the game for a bit. But Teddy should be able to go in this game after suffering the blow as he didn’t have to sit through concussion protocol.
Bridgewater has been pretty good since taking over as the Panthers starting QB in 2020. Teddy has completed 184 of 257 pass attempts for 2106 yards to go along with a 9:6 TD to INT ratio.

All-Pro running back Christian McCaffery is questionable to return this week after suffering an ankle injury in Week 2 against the Buccaneers. It would be a big boost for Matt Rhule’s offense, who has struggled to score the ball over their three-game losing streak. Over the last three games on average, the Panthers are scoring just 19 points a game compared to the 24.4 points they scored in their first 5 games.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs continue to steamroll teams as they continue their reign of the AFC. Kansas City has now just lost one game in their last 17 contests and that was in Week 5 of this against the Raiders. Patrick Mahomes continues to put up MVP numbers and it seems to be going under the radar with what Russell Wilson is doing in Seattle.
Mahomes is the first QB in NFL history to have thrown for 20+ touchdowns and just one interception through his first eight starts of a season. It’s incredible that Patrick proceeds to set record after record and he’s only in his third season in the NFL. Mahomes has completed 190 of 284 passes this season for 2315 yards to go along with 21 touchdowns and one interception.
Kansas City defensively ranks in the top three teams in all of football. They are allowing 19.0 points per game and are probably better on defense this year than last year when they won the Super Bowl. Safety Tyrann Mathieu is the biggest threat on the Chiefs defense and offense’s need to watch out for him as he seems to be involved with every play. Mathieu is tied for the team lead in interceptions with two this season and even returned one for a touchdown. He also is third on the team in tackles with a combined 36 this season.

4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Carolina +10.5
I think the Panthers are capable of putting up a fight against the Chiefs and being able to cover the number. Carolina has only one loss out of five this season where they have lost by more than one score. With Christian McCaffery coming back that should be significant support for the Panthers offense even if he has limited playing time. If the Chiefs have one weakness it’s a strong rushing attack. They are 28th in the league in yards allowed per attempt with 4.8 and they have allowed the third-most rushing yards in the league. Expect a heavy dose of Carolina rushing attacks to cover the spread in Kansas City.
