Get ready, NFL fans and bettors! Week 5 is heating up with a classic NFC West showdown as the Arizona Cardinals (1-3) take on the San Francisco 49ers (2-2). This rivalry, which has grown fierce since the 2002 realignment, continues to deliver close battles, but the Niners have owned the series recently, winning the last four matchups.
They’re also 36-29 overall.
The 49ers won both of their matchups against the Cardinals last season, with the first game ending 35-16 in favor of the 49ers, who were heavy 14.5-point favorites. In the second game, the 49ers won 45-29, and the Cardinals were 11-point underdogs.
The over/under line for the first game was 44 points, and the teams combined for 51 points.
In the second game, the line was 47 points, and the combined score was 74 points.
Arizona Cardinals
The Cardinals’ disappointing 42-14 loss to the Commanders dropped their record to 1-3 for the season. Arizona was favored by -3.5 at home but ended up losing by 28 points. The game was tied 7-7 after the 1st quarter, but Washington took control in the 2nd, outscoring the Cardinals 10-0. Arizona managed to score in the 3rd quarter, but they still trailed 27-14 heading into the 4th, where the Commanders put the game away with 15 unanswered points.
The Commanders’ Jayden Daniels and Brian Robinson Jr. each scored touchdowns, and Arizona’s Kyler Murray connected with Marvin Harrison Jr. for an early touchdown. However, Washington’s running game took over, with Jeremy McNichols also finding the end zone. The over/under line for the game was 48.5 points, with the teams combining for 56 points.
Arizona Cardinals Stats
Despite a 42-14 loss to the Washington Commanders, the Cardinals’ running game performed well, gaining 181 yards on 32 attempts. Kyler Murray completed 72% of his passes for 142 yards and one touchdown, but he was also sacked four times. Arizona finished with just 115 passing yards.
James Conner led the ground attack with 104 yards on 18 carries, averaging 5.8 yards per attempt and scoring one touchdown. Marvin Harrison Jr. was the top receiver with 45 yards and a touchdown. The offense managed 17 first downs and 449 total yards in the game.

In their 42-14 loss to the Washington Commanders, the Cardinals’ defense struggled to stop the run, giving up 216 rushing yards on 37 attempts. Despite allowing 449 total yards, their run defense was a significant issue, allowing 5.8 yards per attempt. They also struggled on third downs, allowing the Commanders to convert 75% of their third down attempts.
In the passing game, Arizona allowed 233 yards through the air, with Washington completing 86.7% of their passes. Although they did come up with one interception, the Cardinals were unable to generate any sacks in the game.
On the Cardinals’ side, Kyler Murray will be looking to connect with rookie sensation Marvin Harrison Jr., but Shanahan is sure to cook up a game plan to neutralize him.
San Francisco 49ers
After a 30-13 win over the Patriots, the 49ers improved to 2-2. San Francisco took a 6-0 lead after the 1st quarter and extended it to 20-3 by halftime. The 49ers were 10.5-point favorites and covered the spread with their 17-point victory. The combined 43 points went over the O/U line of 42 points.
In the 2nd quarter, the 49ers added two touchdowns, with Brock Purdy finding Brandon Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings for scores. George Kittle also caught a touchdown pass late in the 2nd quarter. Although the Patriots scored early in the 3rd quarter, the 49ers responded with another touchdown from Deebo Samuel Jr. and finished off with a field goal in the 4th quarter. The Patriots added a touchdown in the 4th quarter to make the score 30-13.
San Francisco 49ers Stats
San Francisco’s offense put up 30 points in their 30-13 win over the Patriots, racking up 283 yards through the air and 148 yards on the ground. The 49ers finished with 19 first downs and averaged 10.5 yards per pass attempt. They converted 53.8% of their third down chances and were sacked just once.
Quarterback Brock Purdy threw for 288 yards on 15 completions, finishing with one touchdown and one interception. Jordan Mason led the ground game with 123 yards on 24 carries, including a long run of 25 yards and one touchdown. Jauan Jennings was the top receiver, with 88 yards through the air.
In their most recent game, the 49ers’ defense was outstanding, coming up with 6 sacks and holding the Patriots to just 143 passing yards in their 30-13 win over the Patriots. New England managed just 216 total yards and only 73 rushing yards on 24 attempts. The 49ers also defended the pass well, allowing a completion percentage of just 59.4% and forcing the Patriots to a 31.2% third-down conversion rate.
The 49ers’ defense also came up with one interception and limited the Patriots to just one touchdown. San Francisco also won the QB hit and tackles for loss differentials in a dominant defensive performance.
San Francisco enters this game as 7.5-point favorites, and I’m all in on them covering the spread. Why? Because head coach Kyle Shanahan has too many weapons in his arsenal.

Cardinals vs. 49ers Line Movement
| Open-ML | Live-ML | Open-Spread | Live-Spread | |

| 49ers | -425 | -358 | -9.5 | -7.5 |
4* Free Week 5 NFL Betting Prediction: San Francisco -7.5
Brock Purdy, who’s second in the league in passing yards, has been surgical this season, while Jordan Mason is tearing it up on the ground, ranking second in rushing yards.
The Niners dominated Arizona last year by an average of 17.5 points per game, and I don’t see that trend changing this week.
With McBride’s status uncertain and questions around whether James Conner can carry the load, I just don’t see Arizona pulling off an upset. The moneyline favors San Francisco at -358, and I expect them to handle business at Levi’s Stadium.
Our pick vs. the spread is to take the 49ers to cover as home favorites. Currently, the point spread lines have the 49ers at -7.5 favorites, and we have them winning by a score of 35-20.
For this week five matchup between the 49ers and Cardinals, we also like the over as a good bet. The current O/U line is 49.5 points, and we have these teams finishing with 55 combined points.
The over/under is set at 49.5, and with both teams capable of putting up points, this game could push the total, but my money’s on the 49ers to not just win but to cover with confidence.
Don’t sleep on this matchup—San Fran is looking to make a statement!
