2019 Los Angeles Rams Predictions: Roster Changes
With a defense that had its share of difficulties last season, the loss of Ndamukong Suh is going to be felt. That being said, Los Angeles used the draft to create some depth in both the secondary and the linebackers corps.
Rookies Natrez Patrick, Troy Reader, and Taylor Rapp more than likely won’t see time as starters this season without an injury. They will, however, play a significant role in creating a solid defensive rotation.
The Rams were able to get some much-needed help for Todd Gurley in the draft with Darrell Henderson out of Memphis University. After Gurley was limited when he was needed most during the playoffs last year, Henderson could be the addition with the most worth in 2019.
2019 Los Angeles Rams Predictions: Offense
It’s no secret. We all know the Rams are one of the toughest offenses in the NFL. Last season, Los Angeles had the second overall offense in the league. Jared Goff and the boys finished fifth in the league, throwing the ball for 281.7 yards per game with 32 touchdowns.
Todd Gurley and his squad were third in the NFL, galloping for 139.4 yards a week while crossing the goal line 23 times.
As I mentioned earlier, Gurley has some help in the backfield this season. With the addition of Henderson, not as much will be on Gurley’s shoulders in 2019.
Also, Goff was given a few extra dollars. The natural response would be to toss the old pigskin for more than the 4.688 yards he had last year. I think he clears the 4,200-yard mark in 2019, but because of the strength of a few of the defenses the Rams face on the schedule this year, I don’t think he does much more than that.
Then again, he doesn’t need to.
2019 Los Angeles Rams Predictions: Defense
Once all was said and done last year, the Rams had the 20th total defense in the league. They were 14th against the pass, giving up 236.3 yards per contest while allowing 31 scores through the air.
Against the run, Los Angeles was 23rd. They gave their opponents 122.3 yards per game in 2018 with 12 touchdowns.
Yes, Suh is gone. That being said, the Rams beefed up their defense through the draft. No, there probably won’t be any rookies taking over a starting role, but they have a solid rotation at multiple positions. Depth was added at the defensive line, linebacker, and in the secondary.
Overall, the defense should be both healthier and stronger when the weather starts getting colder and they’re playing for a number one or two seed in the playoffs.
2019 Los Angeles Rams Handicapping: (Strengths/Weaknesses)
The offense will without a doubt be the strength of Los Angeles again this season. Gurley was given the relief he both needs and deserves. This not only adds to the Ram’s ground attack, but it will also take pressure from Goff and his receivers.
While the defense still has some work to do in 2019, they will be improved from a year ago, especially against the run. But, then again, with an offense that will score as much as the Rams will, the defense won’t have to exactly be counted on.
2019 Los Angeles Rams Prediction (Final Record): 13-3
As far as the NFC West goes, the Rams are a lock to win the division this year. I see them going 5-1 in their six division games. As far as the rest of the schedule, the Rams play the AFC East and NFC South, with a game against the Bears and at Dallas.
I see both the Saints and Bears getting the best of Los Angeles, making for an interesting NFC playoff picture this year.
