2019 Arizona Cardinals Predictions: Roster Changes
After a year in which led to the Cardinals having the number one draft pick this season, Arizona decided the head coaching job was too much for Steve Wilks to handle. Or something like that.
After a 3-13 season last year, the Cardinals made a move at head coach, bringing in Kliff Kingsbury. One of the first changes made by the head coach was a change at quarterback. Josh Rosen was traded to the Miami Dolphins and Heisman Trophy winner, Kyler Murray, was picked with the first overall pick in the draft.

.Arizona also used draft picks to add depth at the receiver position, selecting both Hakeem Butler and Andy Isabella. Michael Crabtree was also signed as a free agent, adding experience to help Larry Fitzgerald mentor the youngsters.
Cornerback Byron Murphy was selected in the second round out of Washington with the Cardinals looking to strengthen a secondary which performed above average last year.
2019 Arizona Cardinals Predictions: Offense
Last season was tough on the Cardinals when they had the ball. They finished last in the NFL in total offense. Arizona averaged 157.7 yards per game through the air and 83.9 when they kept the ball on the ground.
Yes, there’s a new guy under center. In his college days, Kyler Murray was well respected, even feared, as a dual-threat QB. That’s a talent which doesn’t exactly leave simply because you’re now playing at a higher level.

That being said, I don’t think it’s going to be enough to make a huge improvement. The Cardinals will win more than three games this season. But, when you play the Rams and 49ers who will be much improved on defense, twice a year, it takes more than one man to create significant changes.
Until they make major moves with the offensive line, the Cardinals will still have difficulty running and passing the ball.
2019 Arizona Cardinals Predictions: Defense
As rough a year as 2018 was on the Cardinals offense, it wasn’t much better on the defensive side of the ball. The Cardinals had the 26th overall defense. Arizona was strong against the pass, giving up an average of only 203.9 yards per game and a total of 21 touchdowns through the air. Those numbers were good enough for fourth in the league.
Stopping the run was another story. The Cardinal’s defense gave up 154.9 yards per game and 25 rushing touchdowns on the season. In case you’re wondering, they were 32 against the run.
Arizona’s defense will still be tough to through against this season. They are also going to give up major yards against the run. I don’t see it being quite as bad as last season. That’s only because 2018 was one of those “It can’t get worse than this scenarios.” The numbers will be better this year, but there’s a ton of more work to be done.
2019 Arizona Cardinals Handicapping: (Strengths/Weaknesses)
I’m going to make this short and simple, only because there’s really not much to say. Kyler Murray will be the strength of the team this year. He’ll throw for more than the 2,278 yards Rosen had last season.
I think he’ll shock several of us with the number of rushing yards he finishes the season with. I won’t be surprised at all if he’s the second-leading rusher on the team. But, as I mentioned earlier until the offensive line receives a major overhauling, Murray won’t be able to do enough.
2019 Arizona Cardinals Prediction (Final Record): 5-11
The Cardinals are going to win more than three games this season. Not many more. Maybe two. They play the AFC East and NFC South along with their division games, plus Detroit and the Giants.
The way I see it, Arizona ends up with some great picks again in next year’s draft. Perfect opportunity to work on the offensive line.
