One of the top rivalries in all of college sports reignites Thursday when the 15th ranked Texas Longhorns travel to Oklahoma to take on the Oklahoma Sooners.
Texas is coming off a 81-67 win against Iowa State. The Longhorns have four of their last six games and are 9-6 in conference play.
Oklahoma has been reeling and has lost three games in a row. The Sooners recently lost back-to-back games against their other rival, Oklahoma State.
The Texas Longhorns had sky-high expectations coming into the season having returned all their minutes from last year. So far the Horns have been one of college basketball’s better teams and have been very balanced.
Texas was able to coast against an awful Iowa State team. Texas will be faced with a much tougher test Thursday against Oklahoma. The Longhorns are 4-7 this season against Quad-1 opponents.
Seniors have led the way for the Longhorns. Andrew Jones, Matt Coleman II and Jericho Sims have accounted for just under half the team’s points this year. Jones is shooting 29.7 percent from downtown and will have to regain his composure foe the Longhorns to have a shot.
The Longhorns are in the top-25 in the country in both offensive and defensive efficiency. The Longhorns average 75.1 points per game and allow 68.5 points per game. Andrew Jones leads the team with 14.8 PPG while Coleman II, Greg Brown and Courtney Ramey also average double figures in points.
After a mid-season stretch of being one of the hottest teams in college basketball, the Sooners have come back down to Earth and are falling in the standings. The Sooners have lost three games in a row and are 9-7 in conference. The Sooners still have five quad-1 victories and project as a six-seed.
Like most Lon Kruger led teams, Oklahoma does not waste many possessions. They currently have the 18th lowest turnover rate in college basketball, turning the ball over just 15.3 percent of the time.
The Sooners are 30th in the nation in offensive efficiency and 31st in defensive rating. The Sooners average 75.6 points a game while allowing 69.1 points a night.
The Sooners do a good job of not fouling, allowing the seventh lowest free throw rate in the country. This bodes well against a Texas team that attacks often and likes to get to the foul line.
Oklahoma is led by transfer guard Austin Reaves who averages 17 PPG. Sophomore DeVion Harmon averages 13 PPG.
CBB Betting Trends:
- Sooners are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600.
- Sooners are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 Thursday games.
- Sooners are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
- Longhorns are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 Thursday games.
Free Texas Longhorns vs. Oklahoma Sooners NCAAB Prediction:
The last time these teams met, it was a one-point Oklahoma victory in Austin. This time, I’m sticking with Texas as the Sooners have been reeling. This should be another fun rivalry matchup.
