Syracuse Orange
Syracuse heads into the Watsco Center having won two games in a row. They will be in for a big challenge when they face a tough Miami team that has not lost at home yet.
Around the ACC, other teams are getting talked about more than the Orange, but that does not mean Jim Boeheim’s squad has done nothing. They have a 5-2 conference record and have certainly found more of a rhythm as the season has gone on.
A lot of people questioned the youth with this team heading into the season and rightfully so. It did take them some time to gel on the court, but there appears to be real chemistry with this group.
Throughout the 2022-2023 season, the offense has been pretty good for the Orange and they will need to keep that up against a Miami team that can score the ball at will.
Being able to put points on the board, especially in the paint, should not be an issue for the road team here. On the other hand, consistently getting stops will be much more of a challenge.
Team Overview
With an overall record of 12-6, Syracuse is in the thick of their conference play and so far, they have had some success. A victory against a program like this could really go a long way for them.
The two losses in the ACC have come against Virginia and Pitt. I would not say any of their victories have really stood out, but they have mostly taken care of business against the teams they should be beating.
Through 18 games, Joseph Girard has led the team in scoring at just under 17 points a game. He is also shooting 39.8% from the field and 38.1% from three-point land. If the upset were to be pulled off, I look for him to have plenty of offensive success and really take over the game.
Center Jesse Edwards has also really stood out this season, especially with his presence on the glass. He is averaging 11 rebounds a game which is leading the team by a pretty wide margin.
Miami Hurricanes
Miami looks to get back on track when they play host to Syracuse on Monday evening after a close loss to NC State on Saturday.
The Hurricanes come into this battle as the #16 ranked team with a record of 15-3. I have really been impressed by what they have done to this point and I only feel that will continue as the season goes on and on.
A loss that certainly stands out for them is against Georgia Tech on January 4th. To this point, that was the only conference win the Yellow Jackets have recorded.
Among many others, something that has been quite impressive for the Hurricanes this season is their record at home. Clemson is the only other team in the ACC that has a perfect home record.
It will be interesting to see if the Canes bounce back and get the job done against a tough Syracuse team. On paper, they are the better team, but the idea that this will be an easy one for the home team does not seem very likely here.
Impact Players
There are multiple talented players on this Miami roster and the one that has really stood out the most is Isaiah Wong, who leads the team in lots of different Categories.
Wong is scoring 17 points a game to go along with 4 assists and 1.7 steals. So far, he has clearly been the heartbeat of this squad.
Guard Jordan Miller is scoring just below 15 points a game and Norchad Omier is putting up 14 and 10.
Overall, this is a team that is talented on offense and has plenty of ways to score the ball. I still have questions about their consistency on defense and their bench play.

The Canes have the players that can score and score often in this game. Stopping the Syracuse offense is a bit of a different story.
For me, the 7 points are too many to lay in this conference tilt.
