Saint Joseph’s Hawks
St. Joe’s is 3–9 in Head Coach Billy Lange’s first season and it’s considered a bottom-200 team (229), the worst in the A-10, by the Simple Rating System, an algorithm developed by Sports-Reference.

But the Hawks’ schedule started strangely. They beat Bradley (108) in the season’s opening game at Hagan Arena.
Then they went from Virginia, to Connecticut, to Illinois, to South Carolina and went just 1–5 with the lone win coming in Storrs against the Huskies (56). Losses included Florida (37) by eight, and Missouri State (146) by two, both in Charleston.
By the time St. Joe’s returned home, it was on a four-game losing streak and made things worse with double-digit losses to Saint Francis PA. (176) and Lafayette (191).
It played Villanova (31) tighter but the losing streak hit seven. Then came the forty-seven-point embarrassment at the Liacouras Center, home of the Temple Owls (41).
The losing streak only came to an end the Hawks’ last time out, back at Hagan Arena, against William & Mary (211).
St. Joe’s won by fifteen and can take that, its first win since Nov. 13 in Storrs, into Richmond as it begins conference play.
Richmond Spiders
Richmond started 10–1 with wins over St. Francis PA, a common opponent (but only by two in overtime), Vanderbilt (106), Wisconsin (40), Boston College (133) and at Old Dominion (182), another common opponent.
But the Spiders haven’t returned home since winning at ODU and haven’t won since either; they’ve lost two in a row: to Radford (137) in DC and at Alabama (61).
Five juniors lead the scoring and the first three are guards: Blake Francis (17.8 ppg), Jacob Gilyard (15.3 ppg) and Nick Sherod (12.8 ppg). Gilyard, at 5’9” tall, will pick your pocket if you aren’t careful; he averages 3.5 steals per game.
