Kansas Jayhawks
After having some time off, Kansas will look to get right back to where they left off when they hit the road to face off with a Missouri team that has not lost a game yet.
The defending champs picked up win #8 in their last game with a 91-65 slashing over the Seton Hall Pirates. It was a game where they were clearly the better team and they were able to assert their dominance from start to finish.
In the early part of the season, I have been impressed by what the Jayhawks have been able to do, but they are going to need to keep it up because everyone else in the Big 12 is 6-3 or better at the moment. As always, we will start to get the real answers about these teams when they get into the thick of their conference battles.
So far, one of the only blemishes on their resume is the loss to Tennessee where they just got very little offensive production. Besides that, they have taken care of the cupcake games while also beating some of the tougher opponents, such as Duke, Wisconsin, and NC State.
With some key players no longer on the team, other people have really had to step up and the guy that has really stood out this year is Jalen Wilson. The junior is averaging 22 points a game with 9 rebounds while shooting 43% from the field. He was solid in his first two seasons and it appears he has taken that to another level in 2022.
Kansas absolutely dismantled the Tigers a year ago, but the likelihood of a similar result on Saturday seems very low. Look, the Jayhawks have plenty of talent on both sides of the court to get this win, but they are facing a team with a lot of new faces that are actually headed in the right direction.
It seems so simple to say, but KU is going to need to get offensive contributions from those not named Wilson. Mizzou is certainly going to look to take him out of the game, which will open the door for other scorers to step up.
Despite the Tigers being better than a year ago, it is still clear who the better and more ready team is. If Kansas plays its style of basketball and does not let the home crowd become too much of a factor, they will get the job done.
Missouri Tigers
Missouri is 9-0 to open up the new season and they will undoubtedly face their toughest test so far when they play host to Kansas in this rivalry game.
Your record is what it is. You beat the teams on your schedule. All of that is fair. Still, the Tigers have not faced an overly tough schedule to start off this campaign, so the question of whether they will be ready to go toe-for-toe in a game like this is a fair one.
I look at this game as a good way to measure where they really stack up in the college basketball landscape. Sure, a loss to the champs is not going to define their season, but it will give them some indication of how they look against the best of the best.
Even if this is a new ball club, they still know what happened when these teams met a season ago. In front of their home crowd, this is a good opportunity for them to put on a more competitive performance and maybe even earn the win.
It goes without saying, but if Missouri is truly going to get some revenge here, they will need to execute well in close to every category of the game. Limiting some of Kansas’ biggest offensive threats is what they want to do, but it is easier said than done, especially with a defense that is not great.
Truthfully, I would find it pretty unlikely that Mizzou is able to shut down their opponent totally, so they are going to need to force turnovers against a team that can be sloppy. If not, it will be a long night for them.
On offense, they will have to keep up the success they have had scoring buckets in transition. It is no secret that they have done well in that part of their game and you would expect them to have a similar approach here.

Free Kansas Jayhawks vs. Missouri Tigers NCAAB Prediction:
Free ATS Prediction: Jayhawks -2.5
Missouri is clearly improved and I do feel they can be competitive in this game, but I still do not love them in this spot.
I still feel Kansas just has too many ways to beat them and I look for that to be put on display early and often here.
Playing in this hostile environment will be no easy task for the visiting Jayhawks and I do feel that could have an impact early on in the contest. Once they find their footing, though, the visitors should be able to establish who the more complete and well-coached team is.
My biggest question with Missouri is their defense and I do not trust them to get consistent stops against an offense of this level.
