2026 NCAAB Handicapping – Army Black Knights vs Duke Blue Devils
Here’s why I’m backing an UNDER bet below in my Black Knights Blue Devils free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
Black Knights vs. Blue Devils Gameday
The Army Black Knights visit the No. 2 Duke Blue Devils on Monday, November 2, 2026, at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 PM ET on ESPNU.
Both teams open their regular seasons at 0-0. Army faces a difficult assignment against one of college basketball’s most established programs.
Army drew Duke on opening night, so apparently nobody in scheduling believes in easing into things.
The Black Knights finished 11-21 last season under Kevin Kuwik. Their 5-13 Patriot League record left plenty of room for improvement.
Duke went 35-3 under Jon Scheyer, including 17-1 in ACC play. The Blue Devils captured both conference titles before Connecticut eliminated them 73-72 in the Elite Eight.
Scheyer enters his fifth season with another highly regarded roster. Duke has won 26 consecutive season-openers and 44 straight home-openers.
The Blue Devils defeated Kansas 90-84 in their final exhibition. Patrick Ngongba II led the way with 28 points and 10 rebounds.
Army needs a disciplined performance to avoid another difficult evening in Durham. Duke wants to establish its identity after significant roster changes.
It’s opening night, Army Black Knights vs. Duke Blue Devils, hopefully we get a great matchup.

Army Black Knights vs. Duke Blue Devils Odds & Previous Games
Duke opened as a 42.5-point favorite, with Army getting +42.5. The opening moneylines are Duke -55000 and Army +21650, while the total is 151.5.
Those numbers make Duke an overwhelming favorite. Covering such a large spread, however, requires more than simply winning comfortably.
The Blue Devils defeated Army 114-59 last November. They also won 100-58 in 2024, continuing their dominance in this series.
Duke leads the all-time matchup 14-3 and has won the last 10 meetings. Army hasn’t beaten the Blue Devils since 1939.
Neither club has played a regular-season game in 2026-27. Previous-season results offer context, but they shouldn’t be confused with current form.
The spread creates a demanding assignment for Duke bettors. Army backers receive plenty of points, although the talent gap is considerable.

Blue Devils Stats
Duke averaged 81.6 points last season while allowing 63.6. Those numbers reflected an outstanding balance between offense and defense.
However, Cameron Boozer and Isaiah Evans are gone. Their departures leave substantial scoring responsibilities for the returning players and newcomers.
Ngongba gives Duke a proven interior presence. Caleb Foster, Cayden Boozer and Dame Sarr also return with valuable experience.
Duke lost serious talent, but nobody should mistake this roster for a rebuilding project.
Wisconsin transfer John Blackwell brings additional scoring ability. He delivered 23 points against Kansas, including 4 three-pointers.
The Blue Devils have the size to control the paint. Their length should also create difficult passing angles for Army’s guards.
Foster returned against Kansas after dealing with an ankle injury. Drew Scharnowski missed the preseason exhibitions following a knee procedure, leaving his opener availability uncertain.
Scheyer has multiple lineup combinations available. How quickly the newcomers develop chemistry with the returning players will be important.
Black Knights Stats
Army averaged 72.2 points last season while allowing 77.2. The Black Knights shot 41.2% from the field, reflecting their offensive struggles.
Senior guard Ryan Curry returns after averaging 13.3 points and 4.5 assists. He’ll be responsible for organizing Army’s offense against a much bigger opponent.
The Black Knights averaged 10.6 made three-pointers per game. They attempted 32.7 per contest, making perimeter shooting a major part of their approach.
That reliance on outside shots creates volatility. Cold shooting stretches could leave Army facing a substantial deficit.
Army averaged 35.5 rebounds last season. Competing on the glass will be difficult against Duke’s frontcourt size.
The Black Knights also committed 11.9 turnovers per game. Protecting possessions becomes even more important against an opponent capable of turning mistakes into easy baskets.
Kuwik returns several experienced contributors. Their ability to handle the atmosphere at Cameron Indoor will be tested immediately.
Black Knights vs. Blue Devils Matchup
Duke should have a substantial advantage around the basket. Ngongba’s presence makes finishing inside difficult for an undersized opponent.
Army needs Curry to control the offense and find open shooters. Rushed decisions against Duke’s length could quickly become a problem.
The Blue Devils can attack through their guards or work inside. Army must defend without giving away easy second-chance opportunities.

Duke’s new combinations will be worth watching in their first official game. Army’s challenge is maintaining execution against superior size and athleticism.
Army Black Knights vs. Duke Blue Devils bottom line: Duke holds the clear talent and size advantages, while Army needs disciplined shooting and ball security to remain competitive.
Black Knights Blue Devils Free Pick: Under 151.5
Here is my Black Knights Blue Devils free pick: I’m playing Under 151.5. Duke should win comfortably, but I’m not confusing a 42.5-point spread with an automatic scoring explosion. The Blue Devils can bury Army without pushing this game into the 150s.
Army’s outside shooting is the danger. A few hot stretches from beyond the arc could inflate the total, especially if Duke answers with quick baskets.
A massive favorite doesn’t automatically mean a massive total, no matter how ugly the scoreboard gets.
I’m more interested in what happens after Duke establishes control. A big second-half cushion gives Scheyer room to use his bench, work through combinations and take the urgency out of every possession.
The risk is a parade of Army turnovers creating easy transition points. That’s how an otherwise comfortable Under can get torched without either team playing particularly well.
But I’m not paying for 40 minutes of Duke running up the score. I expect the Blue Devils to handle business without keeping their foot on the gas until the final buzzer. I’m riding Under 151.5.
