Wednesday, November 23rd, finds the Washington Wizards facing the Miami Heat for the second of four scheduled contests and the front side of a baseball series in Miami while the Wizards will host the final contest on April 7th.
In the initial meeting, the Heat were decimated by injury but pushed the Wizards to clutch time finally succumbing 107-106.
The Wizards last played Sunday, hanging on to defeat the Hornets 106-102 while the Heat played Monday losing 101-105 to the Wolves.
All-time the Heat have the advantage of winning 92 of 137 matches versus the Wizards. Last season the teams played on four occasions with Miami taking three of the four contests.
Washington Wizards
There are a number of teams benefitting from opponents missing their best players or core contributors and the Wizards are one of those squads.
Sunday’s victory versus the Hornets was yet another example with LaMelo Ball out.
Driving home how fortunate Washington has been – consider who they avoided in their last 11 games:
- 76ers x 2: Joel Embiid
- Nets: Kyrie Irving and Seth Curry
- Grizzlies x2: Jaren Jackson Jr. in both games, plus Ja Morant, Desmond Bane in the second game
- Hornets x 2: LaMelo Ball (Gordon Hayward in one game)
- Mavericks: Christian Wood
- Heat: Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro, Gabe Vincent, Duncan Robinson
In spite of those advantages, the Wizards still managed to lose three of those matches (76ers, Nets, Grizzlies). As noted, they faced the Heat who were missing five rotational players including arguably their top three players.
While the Heat should have Adebayo and possibly Herro back they’re still shorthanded so this is yet another major opportunity for the Wizards.
Offensively, the Wizards score 108.6 points per game ranking 28th overall. Washington shoots 46.7% from the field tied with the Blazers at 17th and 35.2% from the perimeter ranking 17th.
Defensively, the Wizards allow opponents to score 109.4 per game ranking eighth. Efficiency-wise Washington possesses the third-best opponent field goal percentage (44.6%) and is tied with the Grizzlies in 27th for opponent perimeter percentage (36.8%).
Bradley Beal (quad), Monte Morris (hamstring), and Rui Hachimura (ankle) are questionable. Delon Wright (hamstring) is out indefinitely.
Miami Heat
The injury situation is dire as they only had the minimum eight required players dressed versus Minny. Bam Adebayo suited up and played 35 minutes but if they had others available he likely wouldn’t have played due to his sore knee.
Despite the fact the Heat was playing the second game of a back-to-back and also was so short-handed they led for much of the game on Monday but finally just ran out of steam versus the rested Wolves.
All this adversity is impacting the team’s production with them dropping statistically, particularly on the offensive side of the court. The Heat score 108.2 points per game (29th) while they shoot 44.6% from the field (27th) and 33.4% from the perimeter (24th).
Defensively, the Heat allow opponents to score 109.8 points per game (9th). Miami opponents shoot 47.6 percent from the field (24th) and 36.0% from the perimeter (20th).
The Heat injury list is 11 players long!
Bam Adebayo (knee), Haywood Highsmith (hip), and Udonis Haslem (personal) are probable. Tyler Herro (ankle), Gabe Vincent (knee), and DeWayne Dedmon (foot) are questionable.
Jimmy Butler (knee) was downgraded to out, as are Max Strus (shoulder) and Duncan Robinson (ankle). Victor Oladipo (knee), and Omer Yurtseven (ankle) are out indefinitely.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Wizards are 2-4 ATS in their last 6 games against Miami.
- The Heat are 5-14 ATS in their last 19 games.
- The Wizards are 6-1 SU in their last 7 games.
- Miami is 2-11 ATS in their last 13 games at home.
Free Washington Wizards vs. Miami Heat NBA Prediction:
Despite how beat up the Heat are these baseball sets frequently result in split decisions and the Heat never mail it in, so, I’m still expecting them to win at least one game.
The odds shifted in this game with news Bradley Beal was questionable and if you saw how he left the court Sunday it’s a good bet he’s out.
Granted I’m convinced the Wizards play better, particularly defensively without him. The Wiz went 4-1 with Beal out, winning by an average margin of 8.75. When he returned they lost to the Thunder, defeated the decimated Heat by a single point, and barely beat the 4-14 Hornets.
I’ll bet on the Heat in this match given Adebayo and Herro should be playing, are at home and desperate to end the four-game losing streak.
