Saturday, May 8th the Washington Wizards and Indiana Pacers play for the third and final time this season. The Wizards both prior matches on March 29th (132-124) and May 3rd (154-141).
With only a handful of games remaining these teams appear headed for the play-in tournament with the Pacers currently holding the ninth seed and the Wizards residing in 10th.
The teams have played a total of 182 occasions in their history with the Pacers winning 101 contests. Last season, the clubs played twice with Indiana winning both contests.
Washington Wizards
A huge overtime win in Tampa Bay on Thursday has likely ended any playoff hopes for the Toronto Raptors. Given the Wizards had lost a one point (134-135) battle in Milwaukee the night prior it made this effort all the more impressive.
Now the Wizards will set their sights on moving higher up the ladder. It’s unlikely they can move higher than ninth without help from other teams but this season is proving to never say never.
Deni Avdija (ankle fracture) and Thomas Bryand (torn ACL) are lost for the season.

In the win versus the Raptors, Russell Westbrook collected his 180th triple-double with 13 points, 17 rebounds, and 17 assists. Notably, the next one he produces will tie Oscar Robertson and two more would give him the record on his own.
Bradley Beal scored 28 but needed 22 shots to get there with extra defensive attention the Raptors put on him. Raul Neto scored 25, Brook Lopez added 24 and two others scored in double-figures.
Washington capitalized where they had advantages such as shooting well from the perimeter (43.6%) and getting to the line 43 times to the Raptors 27.
Deni Avdija (ankle fracture) and Thomas Bryand (torn ACL) are lost for the season.
Indiana Pacers
There is turmoil in the Pacers organization as reports surfaced that first year head coach Nate Bjorkgren is having issues with both his players and coaching staff.
Stars Malcolm Brogdon and Domantas Sabonis are both said to want him ousted while many are unhappy with his apparent micromanaging.
It’s adding pressure to an already tense situation as the Pacers try to retain their position for a playoff berth. The Pacers fired Nate McMillan last season feeling the team hadn’t improved and needed a new voice to push them over the top.
Instead they’ve suffered with injuries and a seeming absence of the same qualities that made them a strong two-way team undre McMillan’s tutelage. The latter became an assistant to Lloyd Pierce and subequently the head coach after Pierce was fired.
Indiana is 2-4 through their last five games with the most recent victory coming against McMillan and the Hawks. Caris LeVert led the way with a double-double of 31 points and 12 assists. Sabonis added 30 points, while four others scored in double-figures.
Brogdon has missed the last four games with a sore hamstring and is questionable versus the Wizards. Jeremy Lamb (sore knee) and Edmond Sumner (knee contusion) didn’t play versus the Hawks but listed as questionable for Saturday.
JaKarr Sampson (concussion), Myles Turner (toe – partial plantar plate tear), and TJ Warren (foot fracture) area all out.
