Ish Smith suffered a proximal quadricep injury that will keep him off the court between 6 to 8 weeks. Thomas Bryant is out for the season after suffering a torn ACL.
Denver Nuggets
It was a slow start to the season for Jamal Murray struggling to perform consistently as he nursed a myriad of injuries. Head coach Mike Malone felt Murray wasn’t being aggresive enough offensively and spoke to his star guard.
In the 22 games he had played in the Canadian was taking 15.4 field goal attempts with 5.7 from deep with an efficiency of 44.2 percent and 34.1 percent respectively. That translated into 18.1 points along with 3.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.0 steal.
Murray took coach Malone’s advice to heart which paid immediate dividends. Through the Nuggets last seven games he is averaging 30.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.7 steals.
Most impressively, the increased shot attempts (19.7 from the field with 9.3 from deep) corresponded with an efficiency increase of 55.1 percent from the field and 47.7 percent from the perimeter.
In spite of Murray’s return to form and Nikola Jokic’s continued consistent brilliance the Nuggets are dealing with ongoing injuries to core producers managing to record five wins in their last eight games.
Specifically, the trio of Gary Harris (left adductor strain) missed 10 of the last 11 games while Paul Millsap (knee) and PJ Dozier (hamstring) missed the last 5 and 14 games respectively. All three out out again Thursday. JaMychal Green (shoulder) is also out.
