On Saturday, May 1st, the Washington Wizards meet the Dallas Mavericks for the second and final time this season. The Mavericks won the initial meeting on April 3rd, 109-87.
Last season, the squads played twice each winning once. The Mavericks hold the all-time record having won 45 matches of the 78 played.
Washington Wizards
The first time Washington played the Mavericks, Bradley Beal was out and Kristaps Porzingis didn’t play for Dallas. Without Beal, the Wizards struggled to score especially from the perimeter (5 of 25) shooting just 20 percent.
Russell Westbrook attempted to pick up the slack leading his squad in all three of the main categories with 26 points, 14 rebounds, and five assists. Since that meeting, the Brodie has collected 13 triple-doubles in 16 games and the Wizards are 12-2 in their last 14 games.
Westbrook is closing in on Oscar Robertson’s record of 181 triple-doubles. He posted another in the win versus the Cavaliers on Friday to give him 31 this season and 177 all-time.
Washington played on Friday night pummeling the Cavaliers 122-93 to pull within a half-game of the ninth-place Pacers. Westbrook finished with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists.
Seven Wizards contributed double-figure efforts including Bradley Beal with 19 but had an off shooting night (8 of 24). Washington broke the game wide open in the third quarter allowing them to play nine reserves and keep their stars minutes down for Saturday.
Deni Avdija suffered an ankle fracture while Thomas Bryant tore his ACL. Both are lost for the season.
Dallas Mavericks
All five Dallas starters and Jalen Brunson scored in double-figures in the teams’ first meeting versus the Wizards. Luka Doncic led the way with 26 points while Boban Marjaovic got the start registering a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Dallas has won five of their last six matches including the latest versus the Pistons despite giving Luka Doncic the night off to rest his achy elbow.
Kristaps Porzingis began the game but played only 21 minutes leaving due to soreness in his knee. Tim Hardaway Jr. picked up the slack posting a career-high of 42 points. His dad was on hand to witness his son’s big night.
Trey Burke (15), Jalen Brunson (13), Porzingis (11), and Josh Richardson (10) were the other double-figure scorers.
Although the Pistons got 11 additional free throws they failed to capitalize (23 of 34) as the Mavericks made the most of their attempts missing only one (22-23). The Mavs also shot well from the perimeter connecting with a 43.3 percent efficiency (13 of 30).
Doncic (elbow) and Dorian Finney-Smith (leg) are listed as day-to-day. Kristaps Porzingis left the last game early with right knee soreness and Maxi Kleber (right lower leg soreness) are both questionable for Saturday. Tyrell Terry (personal) is out indefinitely.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Mavericks are 7-3 in the teams last 10 head to head meetings
- The Mavericks are 6-4 ATS in the last 10 head to head meetings
- Over/Under is 5-5 in the teams last 10 head to head meetings
Free Washington Wizards vs. Dallas Mavericks NBA Prediction:
Early in the season, the Mavericks had a habit of playing down to lower-tier teams but have seemingly turned the corner of late.
Likewise, the Wizards have been on fire, however, of those 12 wins in the last 14 games only two came versus teams seeded above 10th (Lakers without LeBron and Jazz without Conley). Dallas also has the rest advantage and Beal looked fatigued Friday with his legs not being fully in his shots.
