Saturday, November 27th, finds the Washington Wizards facing the Dallas Mavericks for the first time this season.
The Wizards are playing the second game of a back-to-back set having defeated tehe Thunder on Friday while the Mavericks beat the Clippers in their last match on Tuesday giving them a huge rest advantage.
Last season, the squads played twice with the Mavericks winning both contests. The Mavericks hold the all-time record having bested the Wizards in 46 of their 79 matches.
Washington Wizards
Are the Wizards the team who began the season 10-3 or the current 2-4 club? Several Eastern teams hit the road and suffered setbacks including the Miami Heat who’ve been one of the best teams in the association.
The difference with the Wizards is they began regressing before they headed out West. Perhaps part of the issue is tied to teams initially believing they would be easy outs and when they got out to a hot start opponents took extra time preparing for them.
One thing Washington has done very well is to defend the perimeter allowing opponents to shoot an inefficient 30.1 percent which tops the NBA. Part of that can be explained by teams starting off the season slow.
Teams might have caught onto their defensive schemes to allow more mid-range shots (they allow the most in the NBA and opponents score the third most).
If the Wizards’ recent games are any indication it would seem so since the Hornets shot 48.4 percent and the Pelicans shot 41.4 percent from the perimeter in their victories.
As for scoring in the paint, the Wizards are in the middle ground ranking 18th allowing 46.3 points per game. In the loss to the Pelicans, they allowed them to score both from the perimeter and in the paint (50 points).
They were able to manage the Thunder from the perimeter (33.3%) but OKC isn’t a great 3-point team. As it was the Wizards were fortunate to win that game having to hold on in the final frame as OKC charge back coming up just two points short (101-99).
Bradley Beal and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope both scored 20 points to lead the Wizards while five players registered double-figure scoring.
Thomas Bryant (knee) is questionable for Saturday while Rui Hachimura remains out indefinitely.
Dallas Mavericks
While many teams have dealt with core players missing copious time the Mavericks have avoided anyone suffering serious injury. Kristaps Porzingis had to sit five games but it was during a stretch where the Mavs faced the Spurs twice and the Kings.
Luka Doncic tweaked his ankle causing him to sit three games and Dallas lost all three two to the Suns and one to the Clippers.
On Tuesday, when Jalen Brunson went down in the paint after Ivica Zubac stepped on his foot there were some anxious moments for the Mavericks staff given how vital Brunson has become as a contributor for the team but the x-rays were negative thus avoiding another serious injury.
Porzingis (and Doncic had arguably their best performance together in the win versus the Clippers.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Mavericks are 8-2 in the last 10 head to head
- The Mavericks are 6-4 ATS in their last 10 meetings
- Over Under is 5-5 in the teams last 10 head to head matchups
Free Washington Wizards vs. Dallas Mavericks NBA Prediction:
Three full days off is a lifetime especially against a team who played the night prior and has been struggling to get wins lately and beating the Thunder by two points won’t do much to bolster the Wizards’ confidence.
Neither club dominates ATS in this setting with the Wizards possessing a 33.3% road success and the Mavericks performing with 42.8% at home ATS.
