The long-standing feud between the Washington Wizards and Boston Celtics gets renewed on Friday, January 8th in their first meeting of the 2020-21 campaign.
Last season, the squads played three times with the Wizards taking two of the three matches. The Celtics hold the all-time record having won 192 matches of the 308 contests played.

With the return of some injured players to the roster, the Wizards are showing they can be that offensive juggernaut once again. In their most recent match, they got into your turn – my turn showdown versus the Philadelphia 76ers.

The final score was 141-136 with the 76ers prevailing despite a 60 point effort from Bradley Beal. His career-best night was spoiled though as the Wizards allowed Philly to score 82 points in the first half and had no answer for Joel Embiid.
After four consecutive triple-doubles to start the season Russell Westbrook failed to reach that benchmark for the second game in a row. Still, he posted a double-double of 20 points, 12 assists, and eight rebounds.
Unfortunately, the enigmatic point guard dislocated his finger in the match against the 76ers making him questionable for Friday.
Also scoring in double-figures were Davis Bertans (17) and Thomas Bryant (11)
Boston Celtics
On the other end of the spectrum, the Celtics engaged in a defensive slugfest versus the Miami Heat having to hold on to net the win 107-105. The finish was wild as Boston held a 10 point lead with 1:17 remaining but the Heat tied the game a little over a minute later (13.9 secs).
It was the Celtics’ third win in a row.
For the second game in a row, Boston was severely depleted at the point with Jeff Teague out due to an ankle injury and Kemba Walker still recovering from a stem cell injection to his knee.
Fortunately, Marcus Smart returned after missing a game and Brad Stevens has used rookie Payton Pritchard to help with the playmaking needs and it was the rookie who tapped the ball in with 0.2 on the clock to seal the win.
Jayson Tatum led the way with a double-double of 27 points, four assists, and five rebounds. While Tatum is the young star drawing most of the media attention, arguably Jaylen Brown is the player who has taken an equally impressive leap. Brown delivered a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds.
Daniel Theis was the only other double-figure scorer with 13 points.
Jeff Teague (ankle) is questionable for Friday’s match. Javonte Green (illness), Walker (knee), and Romeo Langford (wrist) are all out.
