Utah won at Philadelphia on Thursday night, 118–96, for its sixth win in a row and 10th in its last 12 games.
Donovan Mitchell led all scorers with 22 points and four different Jazz reserves scored in double-figures as well.
Hassan Whiteside actually led them all with 14 points and 10 rebounds, despite Rudy Gobert gobbling up 21 rebounds himself.
So far, so good for Whiteside in Utah. He’s managed to stay healthy in limited minutes off the bench, backup up Gobert.
And when he’s healthy, he almost always produces. He’s averaging a modest seven points and 6.5 rebounds per game, which is just what Utah needs out of him.
Rudy Gay has joined Whiteside and the duo everyone already knows about for Utah off the bench, Jordan Clarkson and Joe Ingles, to be a fourth dependable option, at least while he stays healthy.
Gay was once thought of as injury-prone but he’s played 15 seasons and over 1000 games in his NBA career. After starting this season on the shelf, he’s returned in the last few weeks to average 10 points per game for the Jazz.
He’s getting plenty of open looks from three-point range and knocking down over 43 percent of those looks so far.
After a 10–3 start, Washington is on a bit of a backslide.
The Wizards have lost eight of 13 but they did win their last one in Detroit, 119–116.
Kyle Kuzma led the Wizards with 26 and Bradley Beal followed right behind with 25.
Jerami Grant and Cade Cunningham combined for 49 points on the other side.
Deni Avdija scored in double-figures off the bench for the Wizards. The ninth overall pick from over a year ago has been exclusively coming off the bench after starting 32 games as a rookie. His numbers this year look awfully similar to last season’s, however.
Rui Hachimura is still out but there are rumblings that his debut will be soon.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Jazz is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games.
- The Jazz is 6-0-1 ATS in their last 7 games on the road.
- The Wizards are 3-6 ATS in their last 9 games.
- The Wizards are 1-5 SU in their last 6 games played in December.
