Thursday, December 9th, finds the Utah Jazz facing the Philadelphia 76ers for the second time this season. In the initial meeting on November 16th, the Jazz won 120-85 in one of the games Joel Embiid was out due to COVID-19.
Both teams are playing the second game of a back-to-back set with the Jazz pounding the Timberwolves 136-104 for their fifth consecutive win while 76ers played the Hornets for the second straight game (and 16th in a row) defeating them 110-106 on Wednesday.
Last season, the teams played twice with each team winning on their home court. The Jazz holds the all-time record having bested the 76ers in 57 of their 104 matches

Of the two teams, the Jazz arrives with their core much more rested since the blowout versus the Pelicans allowed Quin Snyder to manage his core player’s minutes.
After a closer first half, the Jazz pulled away via a 36-22 third quarter and punctuated the win with a 41-23 final frame. Utah has been lighting it up from the perimeter and wasn’t shy in Minnesota attempting 54 long balls connecting on 25 (46.3%).

The Jazz are relatively healthy with Hassan Whiteside missing his second game with a gluteus injury and questionable for Thursday while Udoka Azubuike (ankle) is out indefinitely.
Philadelphia 76ers
The Sixers return to Philly having registered a 3-1 successful road trip with the only flaw a close one-point loss to the Celtics. Joel Embiid had some up and down games after returning from COVID-19 but has looked much more comfortable on this trip.
The big man followed up Monday’s 43 points 15 rebounds double-double performance versus Charlotte with 32 points, eight rebounds, four rebounds, and a steal.
Almost half of his points came at the charity stripe (15 of 19) while the Hornets as a team took only 21 free throws. Seth Curry 23 points adding eight assists, four rebounds, and a steal.
Tobias Harris is also regaining his conditioning after his own bout with COVID provided 18 points on 7 of 13 from the field and added six rebounds. Although none of the 76ers reserves scored in double-figures they outscored the Hornets bench 25 to 13.
The 76ers are closer to full health although Ben Simmons (suspension) remains away from the team and Grant Riller (shoulder) remains out with no definitive return date.
