The Utah Jazz and Oklahoma City Thunder, will clash in the first round at Chesapeake Energy Center for game one. The Jazz and Thunder have identical records, with Oklahoma City earning the higher seed due to the season head to head matchup.
Oklahoma City won the season series, 3-1. The Thunder have also beaten the Jazz three straight games, with the most recent meeting coming December 23rd. The Thunder got the win, 103-89. All four matchups came during the first two months of the season.
Utah Jazz
The Utah Jazz are in the playoffs again this year. The team took a minor step back from last year’s 51 game win total, winning 48 games this season. The Jazz lost their best player in Gordon Heyward to free agency, but struck rookie gold in the off season.

The Jazz were able to get a steal in the draft. One who has been arguably more productive than Heyward was in Utah. Donovan Mitchell. Mitchell averaged 20.5 points in his rookie season for the Jazz, and is a large part the reason, the team is a fifth seed again this year.
With Mitchell being one of the most productive players in the NBA this season, Rudy Gobert, has silently played like defensive player of the year. Gobert is averaging 13.5 points, 10.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game this season.

Utah also lost their second leading scorer to a trade earlier in the year. Rodney Hood was averaging 16.8 points per game this year for Utah. Losing Hood, and still staying a top five team in the West speaks volumes about the Jazz Head Coach.
Quinn Snyder has made the Jazz believe since he has been apart of the organization, but this season has been special. His coaching style, and awareness of talent is what makes the Utah Jazz motor run. Snyder has preached defense, and it has paid off.
Oklahoma City Thunder
The Oklahoma City Thunder came into this year, with a ton of expectations. Some thought the team would not make the postseason earlier in the year. With the addition of two stars in the off season (George and Anthony), the Thunder have improved from last years eighth seed.
Russell Westbrook has quietly played his way into the MVP conversation again this season. He averaged 25.4 points, 10.1 rebounds and 10.3 assists this year. Averaging a triple double for the second season is something unbelievable, and NBA history.
Without Westbrook’s will to win, the Thunder might not be a playoff team. Carmelo Anthony has not been one of the better off-season additions. He is averaging 16.2 points per game this year. His defense has also failed the Thunder at times this year.

Aside from the difficulty to get Anthony involved, the Thunder could be dangerous. Paul George is averaging 21.9 points per game this season. His defensive play, has a lot to do with why Oklahoma City is allowing 104.4 points per game this year. That ranked OKC 10th in points allowed this season.
Free Utah Jazz vs. Oklahoma City Thunder NBA Series Prediction:
The Utah Jazz struggled against the Thunder this year, but the Jazz are now a different team. Utah is better defensively and offensively right now. Look for a huge series from Donovan Mitchell. Defense is going to be a huge factor for Utah in this series.
Oklahoma City goes as Russell Westbrook goes. Despite beating the Jazz three of four times earlier this year, Utah is a different team. Carmelo Anthony has to play big in this series. If he is absent, The Thunder will go home in seven games.
