Thursday, November 4th, finds the Utah Jazz facing the Atlanta Hawks in their first meeting of the season. The Hawks are playing the second game of a back-to-back set having lost to the Nets on Wednesday. The Jazz played host to Sacramento on Tuesday in a victory versus the Kings.
Last season the clubs played twice with the Jazz winning both contests. The Jazz holds the all-time record with 55 wins in 106 matches.
Although the Kings made it a game they weren’t able to contain the Jazz who went on to collect their sixth win to hang onto the best record in the West.
Jazz center, Rudy Gobert entered the week learning he was named the Western Conference Player of the Week. In the victory versus the Kings, most will note the 11 triples Donovan Mitchell and Mike Conley combined for but it was a defensive stop by Gobert that sealed the win.
The Jazz backcourt duo also collected their season-best scores with Mitchell dropping 36 and Conley adding 30. Gobert offered up another double-double of 12 points and 20 rebounds with four blocks and hit six pivotal free throws down the stretch to ice the win.
Bojan Bogdanovic chipped in with 20 points which Utah needed because their bench didn’t have it flowing. Jordan Clarkson shot 1 of 13 (0 of 11 from deep) for two points. Hassan Whiteside offered rebounding help with 12 boards.
While the late game 3-pointers by Conley and Mitchell were essential the Jazz struggled from the perimeter in this match shooting 14 of 48 (29.2%). This is an ongoing situation for Utah this season as they rank 23rd in 3-point efficiency registering 32 percent to this point.
Jared Butler (illness), Hassan Whiteside (ankle), and Donovan Mitchell (ankle) are all probable to play Thursday while Royce O’Neale (ankle) is questionable. Rudy Gay remains out with a heel injury and no definitive return date.
Entering the match on Wednesday the Hawks were uncertain if they would have John Collins (foot), Trae Young (knee), or Bogdan Bogdanovic (back) available. As it turned out all three played and started so perhaps it was a bit of misdirection from coach Nate McMillan.
It didn’t matter much as the Nets jumped on the Hawks 35-28 in the opening frame and built a bigger league out of halftime with a 34-20 third frame.
Three Hawks starters registered double-doubles with Trae Young ( 21 points, nine rebounds, and 10 assists) flirting with a triple-double. Clint Capela (13 points, 16 rebounds) and John Collins (13 points, 12 rebounds) were the other two.
Yet, it was DeAndre Hunter who had an impressive game leading his team in scoring with 26 points.
The Hawks played one back-to-back set earlier this season winning the first contest (Pelicans) and losing the second (Wizards).
Onyeka Okongwu (shoulder) remains out indefinitely.

Free Utah Jazz vs. Atlanta Hawks NBA Prediction:
These may arguably be the two deepest clubs in the association but the Jazz enters with the rest advantage onto Atlanta’s home court. The Hawks have yet to register one of those statement-type victories.
They’ve lost to the 76ers, Nets and rising teams like the Wizards and Cavaliers whereas their wins are against the Wizards (second meeting), Pelicans, Pistons and their best victory was versus the Mavericks on opening night.
