The Raptors arrive having last played Sunday in a 125-116 win versus the Knicks while the Kings are coming off an impressive 133-100 victory versus the Grizzlies on Monday.
Last season, the squads played twice with Toronto taking both contests. The Kings hold the all-time record having bested the Raptors in 28 of their 52 matches.
*Editor’s Note: Statistics and rankings are current as of this writing, Tuesday evening, January 24th. Numbers may vary slightly entering games on Wednesday, January 25th.
Toronto Raptors
This game marks the start of a season-high seven-game road trip for the Raptors. A deeper dive into their struggles offers hints of how easy a preseason playoff favorite can struggle and fall down the ladder.
For example, the Heat are seeded sixth but possess precisely the same +0.2 net differential as the Raptors. The difference is they’re converting close games.
Miami has played 31 games that required clutch time (match within five points in the final five minutes). They’ve converted 17 of those opportunities.
In contrast, the Raptors have appeared in 28 clutch time games but converted only 12 or 42.9% into wins (Sacramento was one of those losses). Last season, the Raptors were the second-best clutch performers converting 57.8% of the 45 clutch games they were in (26-19).
If Toronto was playing closer to the same identity instead of 12 wins they’d have 16 and be sitting seventh and just one game behind the Heat for sixth. That’s how close a team can be from secure playoff seed to tanker!
Stats
On offense, the Raptors score 112.6 points per game ranking 21st while shooting 45.1% from the field to rank 29th and 33.5% from deep ranking 28th overall.
Defensively, the Raptors allow 112.4 opponent points per game ranking 12th while shooting 48.8% from the field ranking 27th, and 37.4% ranked 28th.
Injury report is yet to be submitted but OG Anunoby left mid-way Saturday after jamming his ankle he likely joins Dalano Banton (hip) as questionable.
OG Anunoby (ankle) and Dalano Banton (hip) are questionable. Otto Porter Jr. (toe) out for season. Christian Koloko is on G League assignment.
Sacramento Kings
Although Ja Morant and Steven Adams didn’t play, the win versus the Grizzlies was of the statement variety as the Kings pummelled Memphis. ‘
Everything was clicking for Sacramento as Domantas Sabonis delivered another triple-double (14 points, 11 assists, 10 rebounds) while De’Aaron Fox (17 points, 10 assists) kept the team calm and focused.
Sac couldn’t miss from deep (22-40), rookie Keegan Murray had another solid game (20 points, nine rebounds), while vets Harrison Barnes (20 points) and Trey Lyles ( 24 points, 6 of 8 from deep) were the x-factors.
Stats
Offensively, the Kings are among the very best in the association with the highest scoring output averaging 120.3 points per game. Similarly, they perform well in the proficiency areas registering 49.5% from the field and 37.1% from deep ranking third and eighth overall.
Sacramento ranks 24th in opponent scoring allowing 116.7 points per game while foes shoot 48.8% from the field and 36.1% from the perimeter ranking 28th and 15th respectively.

Free Toronto Raptors vs. Sacramento Kings NBA Prediction:
While the Kings likely still need to make a move to add/improve their bench depth beating the Grizzlies was a huge win for their confidence and is something they can build upon.
As for Toronto, it feels like the season is already lost, but if the existing roster wants to give Masai Ujiri a reason to keep them together they’ll need to go 5-2 (at a minimum) on this road trip which is unlikely.
