Monday, January 11th finds the Toronto Raptors traveling to play a match versus the Portland Trail Blazers.
The Blazers hold the all-time record between the clubs with 29 wins in 47 meetings. Last season, the clubs played twice each team winning one contest.
Toronto Raptors
Although the Raptors lost two of their three games so far on this trip there are positive signs to pull from the losses. It started in Phoenix where Pascal Siakam finally looked like the player who earned Most Improved Player two seasons ago.
The win in Sacramento registered the most points in franchise history (144) in regulation time. The loss to Golden State was by a single point but they held Stephen Curry to his worst shooting performance ever and they held the ball for the last shot although it rimmed out.
That came about via a concerted defensive effort by holding the Dubs to 19 points while Toronto scored 33 in the final frame. The game was won at the free-throw line (another bane of this season for the Raptors).
That foul was assessed to Fred VanVleet but after a coach challenge shifted to Kyle Lowry. It was about the only thing Lowry did wrong in the fourth quarter when he led the charge and scored 16 of his 17 points.
Siakam posted a double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds. VanVleet (21), OG Anunoby (11) pitched in double-figure scores. Chris Boucher fouled out but not before delivering 15 points, six rebounds, and six blocks.
Portland Trail Blazers
After a tough start to the season, the Portland Trail Blazers seemingly have found their chemistry with consecutive victories over the Timberwolves and Kings.
In the victory over Sacramento, the Blazers got the benefit of facing the young Kinga a night after they played the Raptors who erased a 19 point deficit and went on to win by 21 points.
In this match, they’ll have the rest advantage over the Raptors who played on Sunday.
As is often the case for Portland their backcourt was essential to the win versus the Kings as CJ McCollum did the damage while Damian Lillard struggled to find his range.
McCollum registered 37 points with six out of 11 triples dropping while Lillard shot 5 of 16 finishing with 17 points.
Enes Kanter delivered a double-double of 11 points and 15 rebounds while Carmelo Anthony (13), Jusuf Nurkic (10), and Gary Trent Jr. (10) were the other double-digit contributors.
Zach Collins (ankle) won’t be available until the end of January.
