Tuesday, February 16th finds Eastern Conference rivals the Toronto Raptors and the Milwaukee Bucks meeting for the second time in the 2020-21 campaign. Milwaukee won the January 27th meeting 115-108.
This is the first of two consecutive games slated between these squads this week. Both teams enter on mini losing streaks with the Raptors losing their last two and the Bucks their last three games.
The Bucks hold the all-time record between the clubs with 54 wins in 93 meetings. Last season, the teams played three times with the Bucks taking two contests and the Raptors winning once.
Toronto Raptors
In the course of a season, it’s common for the toughest games to occur on the final match of a long road trip, the first game back home from a long opposite coast road trip, and in second games of back-to-back sets.
The Raptors fell prey to every single one of those circumstances in their recent six-game road trip. The Raptors lost two games during the trip — both the second games of a back-to-back. One of those matches was the final game of the trip.
The other loss occurred versus the Timberwolves who represented their first game back in Tampa Bay and while the Raptors battled they didn’t have enough left in the tank to pull out the late charge in the final frame.
Nick Nurse had hoped to have OG Anunoby back at the end of the trip but he continued to sit with a calf strain and also missed the game versus Minnesota which was his 10th consecutive game sidelined.
Yuta Watanabe has provided energy and defense off the bench but has missed the last three games with an ankle injury. Both Anunoby and Watanabe are listed as doubtful to suit up on Tuesday in Milwaukee.
Milwaukee Bucks
Anyone wondering how viable the addition of Jrue Holiday was to the Bucks needs to look no further than the recent three-game losing streak of Milwaukee. Holiday has missed four games while dealing with the health and safety protocols and the Bucks have a single victory in those matches.
Part of the issue is while Milwaukee added starting talent like Holiday their reserve depth has taken a hit and when just one of the core starters is out they struggle.
Last season the Bucks were able to avoid losing multiple games in a row for the majority of the campaign. They lost three in a row just once and that was when Giannis Antetokounmpo got hurt. That occurred just prior to the league suspending the season due to the pandemic. They lost two in a row once in the bubble.
This season through 27 games the Bucks have already lost consecutive games on three occasions including the most current three-game losing streak.
The stars did their part on Sunday with Antetokounmpo registering a triple-double of 24 points, 17 rebounds, and 10 assists while Khris Middleton scored 23 points.
Bobby Portis (21), Donte DiVincenzo (17), and Bryn Forbes (14) were the other double-figure contributors.
Holiday and Jordan Nwora (ankle) are listed as day-to-day.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The teams are 5-5 in their last 10 head to head meetings
- The teams are 5-5 ATS in the last 10 head to head meetings
- Over/Under is 3-7 in the teams last 10 head to head meetings
Free Toronto Raptors vs. Milwaukee Bucks NBA Prediction:
One team will end their losing streak in this match. If only one of Anunoby or Holiday returns their club will gain the advantage.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Raptors +5.5
A key for the Bucks in the initial contest against the Raptors was Milwaukee got more than double the free throw attempts (26-12) which ended up being the difference in the score. While Anunoby will help limit Giannis the bigger loss could be Holiday who kept Fred VanVleet in check limiting him to 10 points.
Not knowing who’ll dress for sure I’m leaning to the Bucks taking this one but again, if Holiday can’t play it should favor the Raptors.
