Monday, February 8, finds the Toronto Raptors continuing their super bowl road trip facing the Memphis Grizzlies for the first time this season The Raptors have a current five-game win streak against the Grizzlies.
The Raptors hold the all-time record having won 25 matches of the 48 played. Last season, the squads played a single time in the Orlando bubble with the Raptors winning that match.
Toronto Raptors
Ultimately, the toll the win over the Nets took on the Raptors left them without enough in the tank to take on the rested Hawks.
Several times it looked like the Raptors might get back in the match but a chippy third quarter that was fueled by constant whistles on both teams didn’t allow the club to find a rhythm.
Credit to the Hawks who possess one of the best transition defenses in the association and stand to only improve once Kris Dunn is healthy.
Chris Boucher led Toronto scoring 29 points off the bench and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double. The center got out to a blazing hot start this season reaching double-digit scoring in nine of 13 games scoring nine in three others.
Since then Boucher has reached double-figures only in three of the next nine games and hadn’t broken the 20 point barrier until Saturday. It was also the first time since game 13 that he snagged double-figure rebounds.
Fred VanVleet also collected a double-double of 22 points and 10 assists while Norman Powell scored 20 and Pascal Siakam chipped in with 15 points.
OG Anunoby was out for his sixth game nursing a calf strain but the Raptors hope to get him back on the latter end of this six-game Super Bowl trip.
Memphis Grizzlies
Ja Morant returned early from his badly sprained ankle helping his squad continue a three-game winning streak building it to seven games.
Since then the team has struggled and enters this match on a three-game losing streak.
Their most recent loss was tough given they held the lead for a good portion of the match but couldn’t hold off the charging Pelicans spearheaded by the efforts of Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson.
Jonas Valanciunas who played for the first time in six games led the Grizzlies in scoring with 23 points and seven rebounds). He’ll have extra motivation facing his former squad.
Likewise, Canadians Dillon Brooks and Brandon Clarke (who didn’t play Saturday) will be amped for games against the one team in Canada and their potential National Team coach – Nick Nurse.
In addition to JV, Kyle Anderson scored 21 while Morant registered 16 points and nine assists.
Clarke (calf), Sean McDermott (shoulder), DeAnthony Melton (shoulder), and Killian Tillie (foot) are all questionable to play Monday.
Jaren Jackson (knee), Justise Winslow (hip), and Jontay Porter (knee) are all out.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Raptors are 8-2 in the teams last 10 head to head meetings
- The Raptors are 8-1-1 ATS in the last 10 head to head meetings
- Over/Under is 3-6-1 in the teams last 10 head to head meetings
Free Toronto Raptors vs. Memphis Grizzlies NBA Prediction:
The speed of the Grizzlies will be a factor and limiting Morant’s ability to get his teammates involved. Conversely, the Grizzlies aren’t a great 3-point shooting team, nor do they defend the arc well.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Raptors ATS
The Grizzlies create the most steals and rank third for points scored off turnovers while the Raptors create the second most steals and score the most points off turnovers.
I’m leaning toward the Raptors simply because they have a healthier roster and have the book on how to slow Valanciunas.
