Toronto Raptors
Toronto has lost all three games it has played since the All-Star Break and finds itself 11th in the East, two games behind the team currently eighth.
Five guys have been out since two games before the break, in the NBA’s health and safety protocol, including Fred VanVleet, Pascal Siakam, and OG Anunoby.
The Raptors provided an update on all five Tuesday, upgrading Siakam, in addition to Malachi Flynn and Patrick McCaw, to questionable for this game. They listed VanVleet as doubtful, however, and Anunoby as out.
With that list of players out, Toronto has struggled to score in road losses on consecutive nights to Charlotte and Chicago.
Norman Powell has been the go-to guy with Siakam and VanVleet out. He scored 32 in the most recent loss to the Bulls.
Kyle Lowry was the high man against the Hornets but he finished with just 19.
Chris Boucher has averaged 22 points per game over the last five, all off the bench.
The Raptors have lost five in a row, overall.
Detroit Pistons
The first one of Toronto’s losses on its current losing streak came against the Pistons two weeks ago.
Powell had 36; Lowry had 21; and Boucher had 18 but Detroit made nearly half its three-point shots (20-for-41), while Toronto made just a third (12-for-36).
Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk made five three-pointers in that victory but Detroit traded him to Oklahoma City the weekend after the break, just three days ago.
In return, the Pistons received 22-year-old wing Hamidou Diallo, a 2018 second round pick out of Kentucky averaging 11.9 points per game this season.
Diallo has not played since January 24, when he sustained a strained groin muscle.
NBA Handicapping Trends:
- Raptors are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of less than .400.
- Pistons are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games following a double-digit loss at home.
- Pistons are 12-4 ATS in their last 16 games following a ATS loss.
- Over is 12-3 in Raptors last 15 road games vs. a team with a losing home record.
- Over is 12-3 in Pistons last 15 Wednesday games.
- Head to Head: Raptors are 11-5 ATS in the last 16 meetings in Detroit.
Free Toronto Raptors vs. Detroit Pistons NBA Prediction: Toronto gets back into the win column.
If Toronto doesn’t get any of its players back for this game, it still has a good shot to put an end to this losing streak.
Detroit shot the ball well in that meeting two weeks ago but that is not typical.
Of course, the return of Siakam would make this an even stronger play.
