Toronto Raptors vs. Cleveland Cavaliers Odds & Last 5
Head-to-head this season, the Raptors swept the Cavaliers 3-0, but they haven’t faced them since the James Harden trade, so take that sweep with a grain of salt.
The clubs have a playoff history, having faced each other three times in prior seasons, with the Cavaliers dominating with two sweeps and a 4-2 series win. They last played in the 2018 season when LeBron James and Co. took them out, and LBJ famously gave praise to the Scotiabank crowd after the series win.
Coming into the playoffs, the Raptors were 3-2 through their last five matches, while the Cavs arrived on a hot streak, having won five of their last six contests.
Cleveland is favored by 8.5 points while the over/under is 219.5 points.

Toronto Raptors vs. Cleveland Cavaliers bottom line:
While Toronto swept the season series, they haven’t played Cleveland since the addition of Harden to the roster. That’s not a small thing because the bearded man has impacted some fundamental areas that could be the difference in the series.
Specifically, Toronto loves to force turnovers and get out in the break (they rank first in fast break scoring: 18.9 points), but Harden doesn’t turn over the ball, and he’s impacted the pace of play, slowing it to a crawl. Neither are positive situations for the Raptors.
On the Cleveland side of things, although the core has been great, they haven’t played together much, with a cumulative 89 minutes total for the big four (Harden, Mitchell, Allen, Mobley). The question is, does the lack of playing time impact the Cavs, or is it just semantics?
Toronto faced more zone defenses than any other team in the association this season, which led to them sort of figuring out the zone. If Cleveland opts to utilize zone, it could backfire on them.

Raptors Cavaliers Free Pick: Raptors +8.5
Here is my Raptors Cavaliers free pick.
There are several interesting matchups and question marks between the clubs. To wit: who will the Cavaliers put on Brandon Ingram? Dean Wade likely gets the assignment, which should equate to B.I. feasting in the series.
As for Toronto, the big matchup concern has to be who will guard the backcourt of Harden and Mitchell. Scottie Barnes is the best defender, but he typically takes Evan Mobley, and if they move him onto Harden, then who deals with the twin towers?
Suffice to say, RJ Barrett is going to need to have a big series (on BOTH ends) for Toronto to upset.
The key for the Raptors is holding opponents under 120 points. When they do they win and when they don’t they lose.
Although I see a path for the Raptors to pull the upset, it’s a slim shot, at best. Still, for that shot to occur, they’ll need to pull out a win in one of the first two matches to make it realistic. Arguably, their best shot is Game 1, because they have the confidence from the regular season, and it could get into the Cavs’ heads if the Raps can pull it off.
Clutch time could also factor in as the Raptors possess a top-five clutch time defense, but by the same token, their offense can shrivel up and die in the same time frame.
My gut says the Raps will keep the game close, so I’ll take the points. I’m just not sure if they also collect the ‘W’. In addition, I also like the over.
