The Toronto Raptors and Brooklyn Nets will complete their season before Christmas with the fourth game scheduled for December 16th in Toronto and the Nets up 2-0 entering this match.
The teams have played a total of 106 occasions in their history with the Raptors winning 60 contests. Last season, the clubs played four times with the teams splitting the contests.

While Pascal Siakam was out the decimated Raptors fought valiantly to achieve a 5-5 record but that effort was sorely missing in New Orleans who didn’t have Brandon Ingram or CJ McCollum available.
They looked like the shadow of the club that just held the Cavaliers to 88 points and Mavericks to 100. It didn’t help that Fred VanVleet failed to read the room and got ejected for clapping his hands and I believe said ‘come on’ (see below).
It’s also troubling that Scottie Barnes continues to struggle and it’s not just a matter of him dealing with injuries. His energy level isn’t the same, he’s not being aggressive offensively and oddly is making rookie mistakes he didn’t make when he was a rookie.
He came off the bench his first game back and sat during the late run against the Pels which Nurse gave logical explanations for but still felt like the coach was sending a message (bring the energy and defense or…)
On offense, the Raptors score 110.7 points per game (19th) shooting 44.6% from the field (27th) and 33.1% from deep (25th).
Defensively, the Raptors allow 108.5 opponent points per game ranking (7th) while they shoot 47.8% (25th) from the field and 34.9% from deep (11th).
Otto Porter Jr. (toe dislocation) and Precious Achiuwa (ankle) and not expected back for at least a few weeks.

Brooklyn Nets
After two years off the court, T.J. Warren is set to make his Nets debut. If he can come remotely close to the production he registered prior to his foot injury that will offer the Nets a two-way wing that can complement Durant and Irving.
Brooklyn (much like Dallas) is winning seemingly in spite of their weaknesses and oh yeah this guy named KD who has been nothing short of spectacular.
There are bright spots on both sides of the statistical equation (albeit, I watch them and wonder how the heck they rank that high).
Case in point, Brooklyn allows 110.6 points per game ranking ninth and possesses the top ranking for opponent field goal percentage – 44.4%. Their perimeter defense is another story as foes shoot 37.6% from deep ranking 27th overall.
Brooklyn scores 111.6 points per game (18th). They own the third-best field goal percentage, shooting 49.6%, and rank eighth on the perimeter (37.4%).
Alondes Williams (adductor), Ben Simmons (calf), and Yuta Watanabe (hamstring) are out indefinitely.

Toronto is typically a much better road team (3-8) and their first-quarter struggles are adding to those issues. Nick Nurse has started 11 different lineups (mostly due to injuries) but with Siakam back he’d like to lock in that unit and not be playing catch-up after 12 minutes.
Last time these teams met the Nets had their Big 3 (no Seth Curry) while Toronto was missing three starters (Siakam, VanVleet, Barnes), plus key reserves Porter Jr and Achiuwa (and others).
Barnes averaged a double-double in four games versus Brooklyn last season (19.8 points, 11.2 rebounds, 4.25 assists) and sure could use a break-out game.
I’m a bit antsy to go with the Raptors because they still seem to be working through some issues but they know they’ll need this game to have a shot at tying the season series so I’m going to bank on the veteran leadership of Siakam and VanVleet to have them ready.
