Sunday, December 19th, finds the San Antonio Spurs facing the Sacramento Kings for the second time this season. In the initial meeting on November 10th, the Spurs won 136-117. The clubs play once more this season in San Antonio on March 6th.
Both clubs played last on Friday with the Spurs shocking the Jazz 128-126 while the Kings lost 105-124 to the Grizzlies.
Last season, the squads played three times with San Antonio taking two of the three matches. The Spurs hold the all-time record having bested the Kings in 125 of their 185 matches.
San Antonio Spurs
After trailing by as much as 17 points the Spurs used a 41-23 third quarter to get back in the match ending the Jazz eight-game win streak. Seven Spurs including all five starters scored in double-figures.
Dejounte Murray led his team with a triple-double of 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists plus two steals, and a block. It was his fifth triple-double this season and second in three games.
Keldon Johnson scored a team-high 24 points grabbing eight rebounds. Lonnie Walker scored the game-winning bucket as part of his 19 points adding four rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
Derrick White (22). Jakob Poeltl (14), Devin Vassell (13), and Doug McDermott (11) were the other Spurs who registered double-digit scoring.
Although San Antonio has only 11 wins on the season consider some of the teams in that group include the Jazz, Warriors, Bucks, Celtics, Wizards, and Blazers. Granted Washington and Portland are struggling but Utah, Golden State, and Milwaukee all possess home court seeds.
The Spurs are one of the few teams without any players out in quarantine or multiple players out injured. Zach Collins (ankle) is the only Spurs player sidelined as he heals from offseason ankle surgery.
All five Kings starters scored in double-figures and Sacramento held a 15 point lead but failed to stop the charging Grizzlies, losing by 19 points. The Grizzlies dominated the paint outscoring the Kings 60 to 36.
Sacramento also lost the rebound battle (45 to 50), fast break scoring 20 to 18 and while both teams scored 13 times from the perimeter the Grizzlies did it on a much more efficient 54.2 percent versus 37.1 percent for the Kings.
Tyrese Haliburton (21 points, 10 assists, six rebounds) and Chimezie Metu (18 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks) each registered double-doubles while Harrison Barnes delivered 20 points.
With the Kings shorthanded Buddy Hield (15 points) and Tristan Thompson (12 points, nine rebounds) got the tap to start.
Several players entered quarantine including De’Aaron Fox, Davion Mitchell, and Louis King joining Terence Davis, Marvin Bagley III, and Alex Len who were already out following positive tests.
Richaun Holmes missed his fifth consecutive game due to an eye injury.

Free San Antonio Spurs vs. Sacramento Kings NBA Prediction:
The Spurs are 7-4 through the last 11 games and appear to have figured out their offensive chemistry. Although they’ve lost games to teams they should beat I’m leaning to them keeping this current run of better play rolling. .
