The Suns have had all weekend to reflect on their 118-96 loss to Golden State on Friday that snapped an 18-game win streak. Phoenix will now try to get a new run of victories going but it won’t be easy as the Spurs have rattled off four victories of their own.
San Antonio’s latest win was 112-107 at Golden State, a victory which helped the Suns pull back into a tie with the Warriors for the top spot in the Western Conference at 19-4. The Spurs are just 8-13, but they are a team that seems to be finding their groove.
San Antonio Spurs
San Antonio has rattled off four straight victories, and against some quality opponents in the Celtics, Wizards, Trail Blazers, and most recently the Warriors. The Spurs continue to be led by Dejounte Murray, who is averaging 19.1 ppg and should be getting some legitimate all-star game considerations.
What the Spurs have really been able to do as part of turning their season around has been establishing depth. Murray had another good game with 23/12/7 against Golden State, but Derrick White went for 25 and Lonnie Walker IV had 21 off the bench.
It’s that depth and balance that give the Spurs some value in Monday night’s visit to Phoenix, especially considering the Suns have had the last two nights off. San Antonio also plays on Tuesday night as they return home to host the Knicks.
Phoenix Suns
The Suns having an 18 game win streak snapped was a tough blow, but it also came with Phoenix playing on 0 days rest after a win over Detroit on Thursday night. Phoenix also had a big absence in leading scorer Devin Booker missing the game with a hamstring injury.
Booker’s status is in question for the Spurs matchup, which is why the -8 point spread does seem on the high side. Deandre Ayton led the team with 23 points in Friday’s loss to the Warriors.
Phoenix did beat San Antonio 115-111 as part of their 18 game win streak, but that also came with 23 points from Booker. Ayton had 21 points and 14 rebounds in that matchup, so he should be able to dominate once again on Monday night.
NBA Betting Trends:

- OVER is 6-2 last 8 head to head meetings
Free San Antonio Spurs vs. Phoenix Suns NBA Prediction:
The Suns are in a tough spot on Monday night without Booker. That’s 23.2 ppg out of the lineup and Phoenix’s second leading scorer is Deandre Ayton with just 16.5 ppg. Cam Johnson (9.3 ppg) will need to step up in Booker’s absence but he’s got big shoes to fill.
The Spurs have the depth to at least keep this one within the 8 point spread. Murray is going to take this one as a personal challenge against the top team in the West and try to push San Antonio’s win streak to five games.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Spurs +8
The big challenge here for San Antonio is stopping Ayton, who could be a dominant force in the paint.
