The Kings lost in Brooklyn on Tuesday night to run their season-long losing streak to eight games. Back-to-back road games remain before a return home.
Harrison Barnes returned after missing three games. He shot the ball well (7-of-11 from the field for 18 points) but didn’t get many rebounds (3) or assists (1). He only attempted two free throws.
He has to be aggressive for Sacramento to be at its best. De’Aaron Fox (27 points, 8 assists) continued to carry the load on offense in the meantime.
Head Coach Luke Walton has also leaned more on the rookie off the bench, Tyrese Haliburton, who had his third 23-point game, which also happens to be a season-high. It won’t be long until he sets a new one.
Per the trends below, the Kings are 3–14 against the spread (ATS) after a loss. There’s a simple explanation.
Sacramento’s record before the last week of January and after the first week of February, a two-week stretch in which it won seven of eight, is 5–18.
So aside from a hot two weeks, Sacramento has been as terrible as any team in the NBA.
Now, those two weeks did happen and revealed that Sacramento can play better than its record indicates, when healthy and engaged.
So how does one handicap the Kings?
New York Knicks
Their opponent, the New York Knicks, has been good against some of the worst competition the NBA has to offer and otherwise poor.
New York has also been good, at least of late, following a loss: 4–0 ATS in its last four such chances.
It lost to Golden State on Tuesday, 114–106, in the first game a limited number of fans were welcomed back to Madison Square Garden. Julius Randle, announced as an All-Star for the first time in his seventh season in the NBA, had 25 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists.
The Knicks’ two rookies, Obi Toppin and Immanuel Quickley, both played sparingly as the last two in Head Coach Thibs’ 10-man rotation.
Toppin made the most of his three shot attempts, hitting all three, but Quickley’s shooting slump continued. It will be interesting to see if Thibodeau sticks with him or gives some run to either Frank Ntilikina or Kevin Knox.

Free Sacramento Kings vs. New York Knicks NBA Prediction: the Knicks win, cover.
I like the Knicks here. They do well against some of the poorer teams in the NBA because their defense can be the game’s greatest force.
They are also the more well-knit team here. The Kings aren’t any less talented but the Knicks will play better, harder, and get this win at home to keep pace with the playoff contenders.
