Saturday, January 2nd finds the Houston Rockets and Sacramento Kings squaring off in the second meeting in a row. The teams played on Thursday with the Rockets holding off the Kings by a score of 122-119.
The Rockets hold the all-time record winning 136 of the 226 meetings. Last season the clubs played three times with the Rockets taking two out of the three contests.
Harrison Barnes led his team wtih 24 points while De’Aaron Fox (22), Richaun Holmes (22), Buddy Hield (19), and Tyrese Halibruton (11) each offered double-figures
Rookie Haliburton is making a strong first impression and in the small sample size sure looks like a solid candidate for Rookie of the Year. At a minimum, he’s put himself in the conversation.
There will be other rookies on lottery clubs who get more playing time and do more offensively but other than James Wiseman, Haliburton is the rookie having a very real effect on the game outcome.
Case in point, with the Kings trailing by four and 24.6 seconds remaining in the game Haliburton coolly drained a 3-pointer with the entire Rockets bench chirping at him.
Sacramento got two chances to tie the game with Hield and Fox both missing. The notable takeaway Haliburton was on the floor in crunch time and open when Fox took the final shot.
As he continues to progress it will be interesting whether his name gets added to the list of who takes that final shot. That won’t happen in this match as Haliburton will miss the game given a bone bruise on his wrist.
DaQuan Jeffries (back) remains out.
Several Rockets made their regular-season debuts versus the Kings after being in quarantine due to contact with a positive COVID-19 case. Specifically, the trio of Eric Gordon, John Wall, and DeMarcus Cousins returned.
John Wall looks like his All-Star version showcasing speed, change of pace and hops. Wall regisitered 22 points, six rebounds, nine assists, a steal and a block. Cousins played only 14 minutes but accumulated eight points, a rebound, and three assists.
As for James Harden while he pjysically looks over weight his oncourt performance sure hasn’t experienced any regression registering 33 points, six rebounds and eight assists.
Christian Wood produced a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds. Eric Gordon (17) and Danuel House Jr. (11) were the other double-figure contributors.
Mason Jones, Ben McLemore, and Kenyon Martin Jr. are all out with illness.

Free Sacramento Kings vs. Houston Rockets NBA Prediction:
With Wall now available the early takeaway is Harden will continue to produce although there was some noticeable tweaks Stephen Silas could make to maximize the duo’s combined production.
By the same token, some of those issues are the same ones Harden’s prior coaches have grappled with given the star’s tendency to stop moving once he’s not controlling the play.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Kings+5
.Houston could take a page out of the Kings book by making a concerted effort for more balanced scoring. The problem is the team needs to try to improve the relationship with Harden so balanced scoring probably doesn’t rank very high on the list.
