Tuesday, February 16th the Portland Trail Blazers and Oklahoma City Thunder will tip-off for the second time this season. The initial meeting occurred on January 25th with the Thunder taking that match 125-122.
The Thunder holds the all-time record between the squads with 123 victories in 241 meetings. Last season these clubs played four times with each club winning two contests.
Portland Trail Blazers
The Blazers have taken advantage of their recent schedule facing numerous lower-tier clubs leading to their current four-game win streak and victories in six of their last seven games.
Included in this group of games, however, were two impressive wins versus the top Eastern seeded Philadelphia 76ers.
Damian Lillard missed one of the games included in those six wins but has been doing everything possible to keep lead his squad and garner more wins.
Through the last six games, he’s participated in Lillard is averaging 30.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, 7.7 assists, 1.5 steals and is shooting 37.5 percent on 10.7 perimeter attempts per game.
Rodney Hood missed the last two games with a foot injury while Harry Giles suffered a calf injury in the last game. Both are listed as out on Tuesday.
CJ McCollum and Jusuf Nurkic have missed 13 and 14 games respectively. During this stretch, Portland is 8-5 which has helped them retain the fifth seed. McCollum should be nearing a return date.
Zach Collins (medial malleolus stress fracture to his ankle) remains out with no timetable for return.
Oklahoma City Thunder
This past week the Thunder garnered only one win in four games, however, it may have been their most impressive week through to this point in the season.
They forced overtime in consecutive games versus the defending champion Lakers, and almost stole a contest in Denver versus the Nuggets. Although they lost all three games they only had the minimum eight players dressed in LA and nine versus Denver.
Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander missed the latter two games on the road trip and was also out Sunday when the Thunder got a big win versus the Bucks.
Throughout this past week, x-factors have stepped up including Justin Jackson who got the start versus Milwaukee and responded with a team-high 22 points.
Al Horford has been stepping up to lead and was spectacular in the win versus the Bucks with 20 points, seven rebounds, and a season-high nine assists.
Luguentz Dort (19), Darius Bazley (18), and Kenrich Williams (10) also registered double-digit scoring.
The backcourt in particular is decimated with Gilgeous-Alexander (knee), Maledon (health and safety), and George Hill (thumb) all missing games this past week.
SGA and Maledon are day-to-day while Hill will be out until early March.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Blazers are 6-4 in their last 10 head to head meetings
- The teams are 5-5 ATS in the last 10 head to head meetings
- Over/Under is 5-5 in the teams last 10 head to head meetings
Free Portland Trail Blazers vs. Oklahoma City Thunder NBA Prediction:
Rebounding could play a big role in this match as the Thunder boast the third-best defensive rebounds while the Blazers rank 21st.
The other key will be the perimeter. Portland takes and makes the second most 3-point shots and boasts the sixth rated 3-point efficiency. While the Thunder ranks 29th for 3-point efficiency they boast the fifth-best perimeter defense.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Thunder +4.5
Based on those two stats it would seem the edge would be in the favor of the Thunder, but the Blazers always seem to pull out wins in spite of the odds. I’m selecting the Blazers to win but the Thunder to keep it close.
