Monday, February 1st finds the Portland Trail Blazers and the Milwaukee Bucks meeting for the first time in the 2020-21 campaign.
Superstars Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo may be playing in an All-Star Game if the league and NBPA figure things out but to start February they’ll face each other in a match both teams are keen to win.
The Bucks hold the all-time record between the clubs with 75 wins in 127 meetings. Last season, the teams played twice with the Bucks winning both games.
Portland Trail Blazers
The Blazers arrive at this match on a high having won a game on yet another Dame Lillard shot at the buzzer.
The game had a deju vu feeling to it as the Bulls had won in Portland on January 5th after trailing by 20 points. In this match, the Bulls erased a 19 point lead and held a five-point advantage with just under nine seconds remaining.
In other words, it was “Dame Time”.
Lillard came up the court and hit a 37 foot 3-pointer to cut the lead to two. On the inbound play, the Blazers trapped Zach LaVine and drew a jump ball.
In 99 out of 100 jump balls you have to figure the two-time dunk champion is outleaping Gary Trent Jr. but it was the latter who controlled the tip.
In one of those plays that felt like it lasted forever but was over in a flash the ball somehow found its way to Lillard who nailed an off-balance fall-away 3-pointer to win the game.
The superstar finished with 44 points, nine assists, five rebounds, and hit eight of his 17 deep balls.
Enes Kanter delivered a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds (five offensive boards) and Trent Jr., chipped in 18 to go along with the big play at game end.
Derrick Jones Jr. sat out the last game with a foot sprain and won’t play Monday. Cj McCollum fractured his foot and will be out until the end of February.
Jusuf Nurkic broke his wrist and will return in March. Zach Collins is healing from surgery to fix a medial malleolus stress fracture to his ankle.
Milwaukee Bucks
Two seasons ago the Bucks lost consecutive games once in the regular season. Last year Milwaukee was rolling until March when they lost three games in a row although Giannis Antetokounmpo was out for two of those games.
Again in the Disney bubble, they lost consecutive games twice. So in two seasons, the Bucks have been a model of consistency with one three-game losing streak and three occasions where they lost consecutive games.
Through 20 games the Bucks have lost consecutive games twice including the Pelicans and Hornets this weekend. Most cite the new players still integrating but there could be other reasons
Perhaps Coach Bud is finally trying out different schemes to better prepare for the postseason. Arguably the depth isn’t as strong as past seasons particularly 2018-19 with Malcolm Brogdon.
In the loss to the Hornets Antetokounmpo tried to will his team to the victory with 34 points, 18 rebounds, and nine assists. Jrue Holiday (21), Khris Middleton (18), Pat Connaughton (12), and Bobby Portis (11) were the other double-figure scorers.
Antetokounmpo is nursing an ankle sprain sustained in the last game but is expected to play on Monday.

Free Portland Trail Blazers vs. Milwaukee Bucks NBA Prediction:
As much as the Bucks haven’t dominated they still are dangerous although the 10-point spread seems a bit rich.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Blazers +10
An intriguing matchup as the Blazers will fire away from deep while the Bucks will let them and look to dominate the paint.
I like the Blazers to be closer than 10 points and if Giannis doesn’t play or is less than 100 percent then Portland’s chances at winning improve.
