On Thursday, March 25th, the Portland Trail Blazers will travel to South Beach to take on the Miami Heat for the first time this season. It will the first of a four game road trip for the Trail Blazers and the last of four straight home games for the Heat before they hit the road.
Both teams are sitting at the 6th spot in their respective conferences but Portland is boasting a .581 win percentage while Miami is sitting even at .500. The difference is reflective of each side of the NBA as the Western Conference is much deeper and holds higher standards as the Heat wouldn’t even be in the playoffs in the West if the season ended today.
Portland Trail Blazers
Portland enters this game coming off a 5 game home stand where they won the first 3 but were defeated in the final 2 games. The first was an ugly 132-92 beatdown by Luke Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks. Portland held a 3 point lead after the 1st quarter but went on to be outscored by 43 points.
The Trail Blazers last game was a much closer effort but just came up short to the Brooklyn Nets 116-112 who were without Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant still. Portland did a great job spreading the ball around as 7 of the 8 players who saw minutes finished in double figures. Damian Lillard scored a team best 22 points with 9 assists and Enes Kanter dropped a monster 19 point-19 rebound double double but it wasn’t enough as James Harden finished with 25 points and an absurd 17 assists.
Portland appears to be active ahead of the approaching March 25th trade deadline as the team still just does not have enough to make a deep postseason run. The front office has been looking at names such as Aaron Gordon to form a better supporting cast around the dynamic duo of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum.
Miami Heat
Miami had begun to hit their stride and climbed back into playoff positioning but have appeared to tumble once again. They dropped a road game in Memphis but got to return home for a 4 game stand but have dropped the first 3 games to fall to even on the season at 22-22.
Their last game on Tuesday was a defeat to the scorching Phoenix Suns 110-100. Miami couldn’t find any consistent scoring and were clamped down by the Suns all night. Kendrick Nunn had a nice game off the bench and did his best to score a game high 25 points.
They enter this match on a four-game losing streak but still winners of 11 of their last 16 games. Granted they’ve had some tough competition but perhaps the bigger issue is the trade rumor whispers which have grown in intensity as the deadline draws closer.
The Heat have been linked to Kyle Lowry, LaMarcus Aldridge, and a number of other vets or stars. Victor Oladipo wants to end up in Miami but he hasn’t been in the mix of reports (yet). That can’t help but take a psychological toll on a team as uncertainty runs rampant in the locker room.
Goran Dragic (back) is day-to-day. Avery Bradley has missed his 22 games with a calf injury and remains out.
NBA Betting Trends:

Free Portland Trail Blazers vs. Miami Heat NBA Prediction:
Neither team is playing efficient ball as of late and are essentially treading water in respective conferences. It’s for that exact reason each side has had their name heard in trade rumors frequently as both continue to look for a way to bolster their current roster.
This game is a bit of a toss up for me as neither have been good ATS in the past 10 games and the home/away court advantage is essentially nonexistent this season. I would wait to see what the line is in this game as it is not out yet but I would assume Portland will be the slight underdog which in that case I am riding with them to get back in the win column on the road.
