Portland Trail Blazers
Portland lost a close game to Oklahoma City on Monday in the second game of a back-to-back, 125–122.
It was an easy cover for the Thunder and an easy cover for bettors who got wind of both Rodney Hood and Robert Covington missing the game with minor injuries.
Those two missing the game, along with CJ McCollum and Jusuf Nurkic, left the Blazers extremely thin in the rotation, especially on the second night of a back-to-back.
Both Hood and Covington are questionable for this game and they will be needed badly. If they are back or if they aren’t, Gary Trent Jr. has found his opportunity to put up big-time numbers.
The third-year out of Duke played 41 minutes on Monday and scored 22 points. He’s averaging double-figures for the first time in his career.
Houston Rockets
John Wall scored 24 points against his former team on Tuesday night and the Rockets beat the Wizards, 107–88.
Houston actually got at least 20 points from three different guards, including Victor Oladipo and Eric Gordon, who came off the bench.
Boogie Cousins had 19 points and 11 rebounds after his best game of the season in the game immediately prior — 28 points and 17 rebounds against Dallas.
Cousins is averaging over 14 rebounds per game over his last three games — all Houston wins. If his emergence is sustained, Houston will become a problem for opponents out West.
That’s because Oladipo looks immediately at home playing with Wall. He has double-digit points in all four games he has played with his new team.
Houston will not compete for a championship but it has seemingly made a quick transition from a team going nowhere to be a fun contender with the chance to make a quick rebuild moving forward.

There are some free-firing guards getting together in this game and I’m expecting a bit of a track meet. Look for this one to finish up in the 230s.
