The Trail Blazers have had a pretty bad season so far. I really do not see them getting all that much better as the year goes on.
This is a team that has a mini, two game winning streak and they will look to make it three in a row on Thursday, but that will not be easy against Denver.
They were already struggling and now they are trying to have success without their two best players. Even though they have played ok in a few games without them, it is going to be hard to sustain that success.
When I think of the teams that have most underperformed this year, the Blazers definitely come to my mind. Some people had them as a possible contender in the Western Conference and they have come nowhere near that. It is going to be a long season for this group.
Portland last played on Monday, where they beat the Brooklyn Nets by a score of 114-108. That was an impressive victory for them over one of the best teams in basketball, so they will look to build off that on Thursday.
Anfernee Simmons had 23 points and 11 assists in the win over Brooklyn. With their main guys on the sideline, he has assumed more of a role on the offensive side of things and he has impressed. It makes you want to see more of what he can do.
Denver Nuggets
Similar to the Trail Blazers, the Nuggets have also not played all that well this season and they really should be. Given all the players they have on their roster, what they have done is unacceptable.
Denver currently has a record of 20-19, which puts them in 6th place in the Western Conference. Even though it is a decent seed, they are still going to want to get a better one because it is hard to have that much success when you are not in the top ones come playoff time.
These guys were supposed to be one of the better teams in the Western Conference and that has not been the case. At this point in the season, teams such as the Suns and the Warriors seem to be much better than them and I do not see that really changing.
This squad lost to the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday by a score of 87-85. It was a game they could have won, but they were unable to hold the lead, which is just a killer for a team in their position.
The offense was just not good enough in their last game, so it really is not a surprise that they lost. If you score just 85 points, it is very hard to win games in the NBA.

A key for Denver in this game is being able to hold a lead. It has been an issue of theirs throughout the season and it cannot happen once again on Thursday when they face off with the Blazers.
