On Sunday, February 14th, the Portland Trail Blazers meet the Dallas Mavericks for the first time this season.

Although Damian Lillard has played through some of his own bumps and bruises he’s also showcasing leadership. Since McCollum went out, Lillard is averaging 30.7 points, 7.6 assists, 3.8 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and is shooting 38.3 percent from deep on 10.9 attempts per game.
McCollum and Nurkic have missed 12 and 13 games respectively. During this stretch, Portland is 8-5 which has helped them retain the fifth seed, a game back of the fourth-place Suns.
Rodney Hood left the Cavaliers game with a foot injury and is listed as questionable for Sunday.
CJ should be close to returning while Nurkic won’t be back until mid-March. Zach Collins (medial malleolus stress fracture to his ankle) remains out with no timetable for return.
Dallas Mavericks
Through five games of a seven-game homestand, the Mavericks are 4-1. Dallas has climbed the West ladder to the ninth rung, a game back of the Warriors.
In fact, their ascent upward is looking more optimistic as a win Sunday would put them within three games of a home-court seed and within striking distance of at least five teams in front of them. (Warriors, Nuggets, Spurs, Blazers, and Suns).
With Portland on tap today a win would narrow that gap and greatly help their cause.
During the homestand the combination of Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis have led and seem to be rediscovering the timing and chemistry they finished last season with.
Specifically, Doncic is averaging 33.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, 8.8 assists, 1.0 steals, and shooting 43.9 percent from the perimeter on 8.2 attempts.
Similarly, Porzingis is averaging 24.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.6 blocks and is shooting 50 percent from deep on 7.2 attempts.
Unlike the Blazers, the Mavericks have no injuries of note.
