Monday, November 28th Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings meet for the first of four scheduled matches this season. Phoenix will host on February 14th and March 11th while the Kings host the final meeting on March 24th.
The Suns last played Saturday, defeating the Jazz in a 113-112 nailbiter while the Kings suffered a 104-122 whooping at the hands of the Celtics on Friday.
Last season, the squads played four times splitting the regular season series. The Suns hold the all-time record having bested the Kings in 141 of their 241 matches.
Phoenix Suns
In a bit of a surprise, the Suns haven’t skipped a beat without Chris Paul or Cameron Johnson sitting atop the Western Conference. Much of the credit goes to the play and leadership of Devin Booker and the coaching of Monty Williams.
That said, while teams like the Warriors are trying to integrate their youngsters and have them take a bigger role the growth and contributions of Mikal Bridges and Deandre Ayton have factored largely in the Suns’ success.
Ayton was brilliant in the win versus the Jazz delivering a massive double-double of 29 points and 21 rebounds (nine offensive boards).
Much of the reason for the Suns’ dominance is coming on the defensive end as they hold opponents to 107.7 points per game which ranks sixth-best.
Opponents shoot 45.5% from the field ranking sixth but they’ve dropped significantly in their perimeter defense to 27th as opponents shoot 37.6 percent.
Offensively, Phoenix is in the top third of the league putting up 114.6 points per game ranking 10th overall. From an efficiency standpoint, they shoot 47.2% from the field and 37.4% from the perimeter ranking 12th and ninth respectively.
Chris Paul (heel) is downgraded to out on Monday. Jae Crowder (trade request) is away from the team and Cameron Johnson (knee) is out indefinitely.
Sacramento Kings
In a bit of a letdown, the Kings followed up their seven-game win streak with consecutive losses this past week, but got the weekend off for some R and R and will be looking to light the purple victory beam once again.
Offensively, the Kings are among the very best in the association but the recent two-game losing streak impacted their overall rankings a touch. They drop down one ladder rung to second scoring 119.1 points per game.
Similarly, they fall two spots for field goal percentage registering 49.6% which now ranks third-best and their 37.3% from the perimeter drops them three spots to 12th.
As I’ve repeatedly noted, the offense isn’t the issue and the recent losses will help Mike Brown drive home how the importance of defense.
Sacramento ranks 27th in opponent scoring allowing (117.1) points per game and 29th for both opponent field goal (49.5%) and perimeter (38.6%) percentage efficiency.
The Kings have no injuries to report.
NBA Betting Trends:

Free Phoenix Suns vs. Sacramento Kings NBA Prediction:
If Mike Brown needed chalkboard material or practice fodder he got it served up on a platter with the loss to the Celtics. Up until that match, the Kings had only lost one game by double-digits (Grizzlies).
That loss punctuated why defense is important on those nights when the ball just won’t fall. Odds are the Kings spent the weekend practices going over schemes on how they now add defense to their blistering offense.
Phoenix is the perfect opponent to test those schemes against and as a litmus test for how they stack up.
